I have a 331 hemi and a 331 caddy which one should I use It will be going in a 31 model a coupe both would need rebuilt and both have everthing there. For the 331 caddy I have 390 heads, adjustable rockers,3x2 factory intake, and finned eldebrock valve covers, actually I have a complete 390 motor just the block is messed up where the starter attaches.Im just curious Im sort of leaning to the caddy side unless anyone wants to differ.

Use the one you like more.

If you ever decide you're tired of the Cad, the hemi will be waiting in the wings.

you can't please everyone, so you gotta please yourself! If you like the Caddy, go with the Caddy! I'm a Hemi fan, so I know what I'd choose!:D

I think you'll find the Caddy is going to be cheaper to rebuild if you're on a budget. The hemi will reach out and grab people---eye appeal if that's your thing. Sounds like you already have a start on gathering the bolt ons for the Caddy. Tough choice. Do you have a coin?

I'd go with a small block Chevy with a set of those fake flathead covers.

Your Quote ,actually I have a complete 390 motor just the block is messed up where the starter attaches.

Maybe someone will confirm this but use the 390 crank in the 331 make a 412 inch stroked cadillac.
I am sure someone on this site will have exact specs if this can be done.
    Good Luck
I would use the cadillac myself.

  12. I've been having the same kind of question myself. Not trying to hijack the thread, but I'm trying to decide: rebuild a 331 or use a good running 440 for the MG?

I've been leaning towards the 440 since it's probably going up for sale. The reason is that I wave goodby to that engine and miss it less.

So, the real question is: are you keeping your car, or likely to sell it. Which engine would you be most likely to enjoy as the left over one?

Just my .03 (adjusted for COLA).

well back in the day, [ohh fn'o'g] the caddy was THE engine! they fit in most any engine compartment but, were expensive. the olds was next, but the HEMI was really expensive. around town both engines had similar power, but for looksthe hemi is awesome. I have a 330 desoto, and a model A,man that thing is big, and hevy. so I,m thinkin I,m going to the caddy in a model A
