steering column help

    i mounted a late 70s-80s steering column in my 54, the shifter arm will not move very freely, any advice on whats wrong, its not hooked up to the ****** so thats not the problem, any one rebuilt one, any advice would be helpful, thanks mick

    how did you mount the column? did you weld anything to it? did you clamp it?

    is the column kind of loose/wobbly at the top?

    is it a GM column? tilt?

    its a gm tilt, i used the orignal mounts it came with there is nothing binding on it, i think some thing is wrong inside, has any one tore one apart

    I've torn apart quite a few of them. They have a tendency for the 4 screws that hold the tilt pivot onto the main tube to get loose, causing all kinds of fun problems.
