i found this engine sitting in a junkyard... it is completely stuffed but iam curious to know what it is... spark plugs sit vertically, has rocker shafts, no starter mount on the block... fuel pump mounted from the water pump... may be industrial? british or american car or truck? any ideas... some casting numbers are 3180915-1 on heads... B331513 on block... 3156118 on intake...

It looks like the intake makes up part of the valve cover gasket but I need bigger pix to tell for sure.

After spending the good portion of my morning pouring over the service manuals from the 60's in the shop. I've come to the conclusion that it is either an AMC 287 or 327 V8. Thanks for giving me something to do since I have nothing to do but watch paint dry here at the shop.
Here is a link with some great info about this engine...

thanks mate... it had all the trademarks of an early american v8, but i would never have been able to id it... good work...

  6. I looked at it for quite a while and had no clue. I don't think I would have ever guessed AMC.

Very few engines used a two center bolt valve cover so it wasn't all that difficult to id really... Collecting all those service manuals really comes in handy some days.
