Hi. I'm working on collecting parts for a project I've been wanting to do for some time, a 1936 International Harvester late 60s style drag race pick-up for the street.

After searching through lots of pictures, I find myself most influenced by the fuel altereds of the time. Here's what I have in mind:

body: chopped and channeled, bed shortened, thinking gloss black paint on body and frame.
front suspension: dropped tube axle with coil-overs and either hairpins or 4 bars (everything plated) with disc brakes, vega steering for simplicity, axle stock location not suicide.
rear suspension: ladder bars or 4 bars with coil overs?
wheels: Cragars front and back? 12 spokes?
interior: stock guagues with tach on column, some type of buckets (any ideas? preferably not bombers!), black carpet and upholstered door panels and such because I will be driving it regularly. Rollbar?
engine: 392 International with either finned aluminum valve covers, or painted steel covers with international script in chrome (not sure which), 6-71 with 2x4s and a home made scoop or homemade log manifold with 8x2s? Black or red paint for the engine?
    tranny: 727 auto

If you've managed to read through all of my rambling, what's your thoughts?

    Thanks.

Everything but the 4 bars sound ok.

I figured the 4bars would sound iffy, but put them in their because I saw that the fuel altered Pure Hell was running them in the 60s. Not sure how they would look on a full frame truck though. They looked good on the Pure Hell's tube frame.

Any other suggestions? Any more thoughts on the 4bars? Thanks.

I'd run the 4 Link. Especially if you are gonna hide the rear suspension under the truck bed. I was sorta goin for the same look with my truck, but I put a drg race type 4 link in it. You gotta look close to see it.

The finned covers are on the shelf next to the blower manifold.

Finned covers are available, as are aluminum dual plane four barrel intakes. As for a blower manifold, it would have to be fabbed up, so would a log manifold, either way, not really that big of a deal, and the blower on a 392 IH has been done before. Would you guys go finned aluminum for the valve covers or stock painted steel with the Internationa script chrome? I'm kind of leaning towards the finned ones myself.
