I am getting ready to install my new reversed eye front spring and have cleaned up most of the old springs. What should I put between the springs, ....Axle grease? I have heard that I shouldn't paint them and that they slide better if unpainted? I don't want to use teflon ****ons. What do you suggest and have experience with?

On the last one I rebuilt I ground them to bare metal ,and used marine grade axle bearing grease. Just use a heavy amount between each leaf and the excess will squish out the sides when you put them back together. On mine I wiped off the excess cleaned and painted the outside.

I once sandwiched black polyethelene strips between the painted leaves. Couldn't see them after the leaf was ***embled and they slid pretty nice.
