i was hitting up some back roads today and found this '32 chevy sedan body.

body, headlights, and dashboard....and the owner insists i take the 'gl*** fenders he has for it. so heres the question of the day......would you pay $2000 for it?

Not without a wood kit for it!

Those are mostly wood under the body panels. Probably the termites holding hands is the only reason it still is upright!

i did notice it was REALLY shaky, theres not much wood left at all....the roof slats are in good shape! the bottom half (from what i could see) is in awesome shape. no windshield frame, or visor, does have all window regulators, and latches work good too.

looks better than the one I just sold at Turlock for $1,900....but yeah it's all about the wood issue, termites holding hands..funny

    '32 Chevys didn't have a visor or a swing out type windshield frame, I think that it's a '31

I would think that in California, where I get the impression hot rod starter projects are scarce, 2,000 bucks would be a deal for something like that. Maybe you could sell the gl*** fenders and recoup some of your expense?

Hey Josh the guy I told you about also has a 27 T sedan body for $1,500 and 3 model A 28 29 pickup cabs your choice $1,250 each, that chevy will really work you hard with no wood.

stay away from it unless either it has wood, you want to buy wood or plan to do it all in metal. $2000 does not get you much and it is a 32.. they are good looking bodies

'31's had the visor, but not a swing out windshield either.

Wasn't sure if the '31 had a swing out winshield or not...the header area above the winshield sure looks like it needs a visor, which would make it a '31

Make the guy a reasonable offer, be prepared to duck, and buy the damn thing, they don't make them anymore ya know....Well, being a GM you are going to have some wood structure to deal with, shore it up with some square stock and you'll be fine....

I know a lot of folks that bought a pre 36 GM, all said they never do another wood framed car. I don't know how availibility and prices are where your'e at but thats to much around here. I bought a 31 Model A body with doors and gas tank, solid with no rust a while back for $300 and had to sleep on it overnight. About the going rate around here.

are you a personal friend of norm abrams? if you ain't you better get his number. that vintage gm ain't for a novice hot rodder. i would rather mess with rust than rotted wood. one of the reasons i bought a 36' plymouth for my first car in 1976, only 3 pieces of wood for the top insert.

cool guys, thanks for the info...i might have been blinded by the "found old sh$t vision" for a few. at first i was jazzed i found it, then i heard the price...and it seemed kinda steep. hah "termites holding hands"...that may be the best thing i heard all day! thanks for the info, i think i'll let it sit a few more years, and maybe he'll come down on the price!

Unless you're an experienced wood worker, I'd avoid it for any price. A similar Model A, on a frame, will cost half or less.

I have a 28 2 door coupe. It needs a lot of the wood and I will be doing a lot of it myself. The things I don't want to tackle I will buy. Found a place that has the wood. His complete kit for my car was over $4000 but will sell pieces. Most of mine is intact so I can use them for patterns. Just like doing this stuff myself.

The pick-up bodies are different from the p***enger cars. The 31 and 32 Chevy cars had a windshield that cranked up. The body shown is a 31.

Got a 28 chevy 2 door coupe. Priced the complete wood kit and was over $4000. Will be doing what I can myself and will buy what I can't.
Will be a TON of work but hopefully a lot of satisfaction

Oh yeh, Anybody know if there is a difference in the grills, mainly how they fit, between the 28 and the newer ones?

I don't what to change the subject of this post, but it's post like this that upset me.... Well not the post really.

Heres what I'm tring to say. In 82 or 83 my Dad and I bought a 29 Sedan body and frame. The body was rusty but needed no patching, we replaced the wood. The frame we Z'd and boxed. We bought the thing for 125.00.

After the car was running, and tagged. We painted it, put some chrome steelies on it and sold it for 2500.00.

Now this is worth 2000.00? Geeze, how much longer till a lot us can't afford to play any longer?
