anyone know if u can swap tail sections from a small block 727 short tail with a big block long tail?!
I do believe you can, BUT I've never done it and I'm no expert here. How's that for an answer?? Seriously, I think the major internals are the same and the tailshaft sections can be swapped.
Yes, as long as they are the same version. '65 and back are very different than '66 and later. Of course, the late-model OD version is a different animal too. Post pictures or the ***'y numbers of the two transmissions if you are unsure. BTW, the ***'y number is stamped into the pan rail -drivers side- just above the oil pan and below where the shift lever/cable enters the case.
Yes you can but.. The whole thing has to come apart to swap the output shaft. The only way to get it out is through the front. Shawn
Since you have the ****** and have to fully dis-***emble it to swap the output shaft why not just rebuild the one you need. Its not that difficult.......
I agree with ratmotor just rebuild the one you need. If you do rebuild get yourself an ATSG book for the 904/727, believe me it comes in handy. Just curious whats the reason for the tailshaft swap? later shawn
got a 383 727 goin in my A-100 which has a 318 727 shorty now. the 318s goin in the '58 Rambler. so I need the short tail on the BB an the long tail on the SB.
