Hi, I maybe can get a cheap 1951 Pontiac Delivery project, but I don´t like the big chromepiece on the hood. Does a "clean" hood from another model/year would fit? Thanks for your help... Greetz from germany Peter Wilde
According to my Hollander's Interchange Manual, hoods from '49-'52 Pontiacs (all models) will interchange with each other.
i am working on a 50 poncho and dont want the big chrome hood stripeither, i will be shaving mine using fuser so i dont have to weld and warp the every living hell out of the hood hope that helps some tom
@TagMan Thanks for the info, but they all look the same. :-( @pgh57chevyg***er "fuser" -> is that bondo/plastic? If yes, I think you could get cracks in the hood from the engine heat. I thought about that too. @ALL I was hoping that a hood from a chevy would fit. Any ideas? peter
no chevy hood. fits only pontiac. so i was gonna make a piece to fit in the pontiac hood make the tolerances really tight fill in the small gap with plastic. my buddy worked at a body shop say he has a gun for it .says its a 2 part deal says they use it alot on new cars heres a link http://www.autobodytoolmart.net/p-10765-4195-duramix-large-metal-panel-adhesive-04179.aspx need any more info pm me
The Pontiac, I believe, shares the Chevrolet body but not the front sheetmetal because of the longer wheelbase.
Im not 100% sure on this, but I think a hood from a similar Chevy might fit. I have a '51 Pontiac, I ended up filling the gap with sheet metal and finishing it off with some body work.
To elaborate: Pontiac and Chevrolet use the same sheetmetal from the cowl BACK. The difference is the longer wheelbase on the Pontiac, all added in front of the cowl. Hood will NOT fit. (Neither will fenders. Further, until 1971, each GM division was allowed to utilise whatever suspensions they wanted, front and/or rear. This means that all that was really alike was the sheetmetal and body pickup points. Cosmo
I see you are from Europe. Do you have a Canadian or American Pontiac? If your ID tag says made in Canada, a chev hood should work as Canadian Pontiacs shared the same wheelbase, so the fenders and hood are shorter than the US version. If it is made in USA you are out of luck. Pat.
