You New Yorkers are screwed now

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by fuel pump, Feb 15, 2007.

  1. Didn't they stop putting the little center spinners on hubcaps in '67 or '68 Along with non-defelecting hood ornaments? Was that because styles changed or were they somehow dangerous to people walking in parking lots and the Feds told 'em to?

  2. Anyone ever wonder why polititions go back in session EVERY year to create MORE laws? It is just absurd, what was so bad about Feb. of last year that we need more new laws?.................................something to ponder.

Give alittle and they will take alot . I see alota guys dont care if they take homeys 22 in dub spinners off the street because it aint there style. But the pin head lawmakers might not really like your style and try to make you put fenders on your car or a hood and before you know it you might have to take your model A to take a emissions test.If there is some thing that needs to be taken off the road its the cell phone not a spinning wheel .

Because if they outlaw their lame-assed wheels, they could take your cool spinners next.

  10. It was 1967.That was why the Corvettes with the alloy wheels were bolt-on instead of being true knock off wheels. They were so afraid some stupid jaywalking fool would get his shins cut up by the spinning caps.I think that was one of Nader's Raiders that thought that one up.And don't even get me started on the,"Great Voluminous Vagina from New York".

I remember back in the 80's there was a bill to outlaw sportbikes.A lot of Harley riders said they didn't care as they don't like them things, but what kind of bike would they outlaw next.

when spinners first came out it took me a little while to get used to them...they cause rear-end collisions..If you are going through an intersection and the other guy at the red light is sitting there with his spinners going, your first reaction is to hit the brakes thinking they are still moving forward, running the light, whatever...not that I would support any legislation against them, because typically you have to draw a line somewhere....

try being a biker and meeting up with a pos 4 door driven by some young kid at an intersection!Your attention is immediatly drawn to those spinning wheels trying to decide if he's stopping/stopped or running the stop sign.Yes those damd things are dangerous ,but I still don't like laws being passerd because by the time this inocent little safety law goes into effect it will be written to the point that ANY wheel/tire change from STOCK will be illegal with typical beurocratic overkill

Totally, but this is a car forum...pre 64 rod and custom. So, with that said, should we have a discussion about the NYC ban of trans fats that will no doubt spread to Philly and subsequently NJ? How about the indoor smoking ban?

My point is that there are laws being passed every day that infringe on our rights. IMO the liberals want this world to be safe for morons or radicals to not be hurt or much worse....."offended".

I'm not disputing that this law is one more step toward a world such described, but this is a rod and custom forum, not a political forum.

It'll die in session, if not, close the doors and go back to the private sector, and make some money, create some jobs. Too much time on their hands..

Therein lies your problem. there is a world of difference between '50s Dodge or Olds "spinner" hubcaps and these spinning things the turner kidz use. Since most legislators are too dense to know the difference, I'd say some letters from you New Yorkers to your state congressmen with pics, explanations and phone calls are in order.

This is nothing more than rumor until a proposed bill number is provided so that we can see what the language of the bill. If it's not yet a propsed bill but under development, now is the best time to influence or work to defeat nulify it's effectivness.

Someone mentioned if these are traditional........ reminds me of a few years back, this old guy pulls into a car show with a 50's custom ( I forget what), he had these body colored discs on the front wheels that didn't rotate when driving. They were mounted to his spindle nut. Pretty cool effect, said he did it back in the day when he was a kid.

If they'll include hydraulic and air suspensions, I'll vote for it!

and wide whites, MII front suspension on open wheel cars, time out dolls at car shows, Chevy 350s, undercar neon, tunnel rams, clearcoat over rust, Flowmasters, '66 Mustangs.... ;)

I think when the manufacturers stopped putting spinners or other items on new cars, it was in reaction to either federal D.O.T. standards changing (they regulate all kinds of things today, back then it was stuff like lights, mirrors, brakes, safety glass, etc...) OR, it was reaction to corporate lawyers advising the manufacturers that they had a potential liability on their hands.

The laws are already in place for manufacturers to build a safe product that meets all federal D.O.T. and E.P.A. standards, but the purchaser is free to change things that don't cause it to fail the state safety/emissions inspections. New laws like the one proposed would limit the "allowable" modifications.

The question is...if you are running a Model A with one 6 volt tail light, it is legal because that's all that was required when the car was new, so will you be allowed to run spinner type wheels on a car older than the year that the law is adopted?
