Can any give me any idea what a 5o pickup might be worth,Here is what i can tell you about it short box flathead runs great 3 speed manul rust free ok paint. drives ok. I am looking at this truck
What shape is the body in. I bought a 50f1 last summer no engine or ******. Above average body pd $900
I have seen the truck he is talking about. The owner has repainted this recently. It is not a profesional paint job, but looks good from a few feet away. As far as I know the truck runs fine but has some small dings and dents that the owner painted over. I have no idea about the interior, but I know that the current owner drives it alot. Jim
I paid $750 for my 48 F-1 two years ago. Complete **** drivetrain, decent sheet metal. Old running survivors in this area are $1000 to $2000. Saw one at a car lot recently, just an old ranch truck, they wanted $5000. I was polite enough to wait until I left to laugh.
i wouldnt top 2500 if its not a driver i paid 900 for mine with the resto halfway complete but if its cool and its what you dig and the guy wants what you think is fair jump on it you dont have to get a smokin deal on it if you like it you will put more effort in it and get it done and have a nicer piece than a guy who scored a perfect gmc for 250 but wanted a ford
I would seriously question the term "rust free". My '56 was a California truck and had it's share of rust. I would think one that spent any amount of time in Iowa would ac***ulate it's share. That said, a running, driving truck with paint on it ain't bad at all. Any idea what the seller is asking/wanting?
This sounds like my truck. A lot depends. What are your plans for it? Daily driver or just weekend trips to the dump? Or rodding it? A regular daily driver is good. When the body was painted, did the truck get rebuilt? All the bushings from spring shackles on up. Or is it all worn, loose, rattles, shakes, etc? Steering gearbox tight or needing rebuilding? If it's a worn out truck and you want to drive it, you'll put $3-5000 in it just making the mechanics new - not counting your time. If its like new mechanically you know what it cost to get it there. I'd say if you get it for $1500 you've got a bargain - especially if you like flatheads. I wouldn't want to go beyond $3500 without knowing the answers to the above questions. If it has been rebuilt and everything is new, $5000 would be my walk-away figure. But that's me. Sort thru the garbage above and you'll come up with a figure that's fair to both.
I'm going to have to disagree a just a bit with some of the other replies. I tend to look at the value of a vehicle in terms of what I could get if I parted it out (or what I'd have to spend if I had to buy the parts). Just the good running flathead and ****** are worth $1500. Got a good upholstered seat? Another $300. Nice steering wheel? $50. Rust free fenders? Maybe $250 each, times four. Hood - $150. Rearend - can't give 'em away but they are strong Dana rearends. Tailgate - $200. Bed box - if not too dinged up, $750. Cab - $350. Guages and panel - $75. Got nearly new 16" tires? $200 or more for the set, depending on brand, etc. Factory Ford steelie wheels with factory caps - $50 each, at least. Well, that's enough for you to get the picture.
