We went yesterday to checkout the Starbird show and was shocked to see
this new Bubbletop. Built around Atoka, Okla.by Bob Hall. Sorry for the
quality of the pictures but it is real kool. They even built their own
bubbletop. They called the guy in Tulsa and he wanted a grand to build one
and they thought they could build one for less then that. It took two times to get it right and the bubble turned out great. I asked how they built it and
they told me their barbaque pit and charcoal. Yep they used a Barbaque pit to build their Bubbletop. I wish I could have seen the pictures of the build.
    Kool tech.........

    Enjoy the pictures.

    Happy Trails,

    Mick

Yeah its pretty cool, but its not a patch on the greats like Roth and Plowboys cars.

Looks good. I really like the shape of the bubbletop. Very unique.
The rear does remind me of Plowboys' Spacetruck.

I don't care for it as much a Dave Shuten's AstroSled though.

Mick, is it steel or fiberglass??

These are all starting to look the same to me... I wonder if this one runs?

I met Bob when he had just finished blowing the bubble top. He is a super neat guy. Way more talented than anyone could imagine. Glad to see this one is finished. He hadn't built the body at the time. He was in the middle of hand forming new rear fenders and most of a tail section for a Zephyr. This guy is a ruler.

  7. If it's in ISCA competition..it has to run.
If he's just showing it off...well, .......you never know.

Damn, you guys are getting cynical!

By the above standard, every '32, every Model A, every shoebox Ford looks the same. Face it, only us car creeps can tell things apart.

    The car is awesome.

I have a couple sets of those '60 Dodge taillights slated for an future incarnation of my Futura.

The back started as a '62 galaxie and the rest is out of steel and little bit of bondo. It does look like a Plowboy inspired ride but that is not a bad thing. It is not far the best bubbletop at the show it was just kool to see another new bubbletop. I love the design of the bubble.......

I know what ya mean Chopped Mercs, '32 Fords and '40 Coupes are starting to all look alike. Is this a bad thing??? I was not around back then But looking at the little magazines, I love the radical 60's Hot Rods and Kustoms and it looks like we are re-living those days.

If I remember right is is a 283 and it does run. Radiator is mounted in the trunk.

More pics from the show....... One with the bubble top closed.....Larry's God like '32 Ford. Chek out his Army interior!!!!!

    Happy Trails,

    Mick

I am with you on that Haring. I think it is a lot different than the others. It appears to be steel, but from the cockpit configuration it doesn't appear to be too driveable.

I was going to put some similar fenders on mine, but since he already did it I guess it saves me the trouble! Ha Ha Ha

Driveable? Hell, I don't think ya could sit upright with the bubble closed. This one and the other blue one just look clumsy compared to Roth's cars.

Keep it up Plowboy - your's are in a class apart.

I agree with you there Ryan, while my new car certainly is going to have it driving limitations with the bubble on it, I don't believe a car should just look pretty. I at least want to do some big smoky burnouts with it. Ha Ha Ha That is why I am also going to make a roadster windshield for mine.

I used to have a model A. I was down at the Roundup last year looking at one for a while....then I realized it was my old one. Ha Ha Ha

  15. Well I like it, but I'm a sucker for Hot Wheels type cars anyway. I'd love to see some more pics.

  16. If its built in true '60s tradition it isn't required to run, " All show 'n' no go" was a common saying back then.

That's not to say that some didn't run but there were a lot of the chromed out beauties that didn't.

I agree with your point of view on the subject but you already know that.

If it does in fact run it as has been pointed out isn't a very practicle ride, but a lot of our cars are not that practicle I suspect. Its an art to build one that is truely unique looking and still driveable.

Anyway neat little car. Probably too much flash for me and way out of my league when it comes to shapeing and smoothing but neat little car.

I am always in awe when I see the body work and detail that goes into these type of cars. Drivable or not. I would give my left nut to be that talented...Plowboys vision and talent humbles me. I would never spend that much work on something that is just for show.
Thats misses the whole point in my opinion.
These sure beat the hell out of the souless plastic tubs we were seeing back in the 90's and early 2000's.
I love the front end on this one. Looks mean as hell.
deflate your head Aaron, youre still gay.

The koolest thing about the bubble top is they made their own BUBBLE.

They used a Barbque pit and Charcoal brickets!!

How can you not like the car with this kind of Okie engineering???

Yesterday on the way to starbirds trailering my Model A I was traveling at 55 mph. I noticed a truck behind me about a mile away gaining on me. They got behind me at about Redneck corner and followed me all the way. It was them. I don't really know the guy, but I talked to him and his team while they were getting the car ready last night. I think it is fantastic. It takes alot of planning and thought to build a car like that. I took pictures of it at every angle I could. It isn't perfect but what car is. Alot of time and thought went into the car. I like the "Roth" styled cars, wish I could build one. I hope they win some kind of award for thier effort. My opinion.

  22. True, lots of work. You have to admire the enthusiasum used and time spent. Might not be my thing but you still have to give 'em credit for the work done. reminds me of a mint on wheels.

Some of you are silly (think retarded when I say silly, Im being nice). You ever build and drive a Puller tractor? How about jsut sit on one and drive it around?? Still, No? How about see them at Starbirds or another show?

We used to pull them, so I ll help you out.

For those, you basically sit on the cover of the tail shaft of the tranny on a think seat. Your legs stradle each side of the tranny with a pedal on each side. They drive just fine, and you really dont sit up too much higher than the top of the air breather.

For them looking all alike, I can kinda see that, but also like someone else pointed out that every shoebox Ford Looks alike, as does every 32.

For this one being drivable, Once again, Silly! I would venture to say it is probably very drivable. Look at the radiator Hose running down at an angle. You can see plainly in this picture the Accel Linkage going to the Man-a-fre, you can see the spark plug wires, you can see the fuel log hooked in. From the front picture, you can clearly see the rubber brake hoses. Id bet my money they can hop in this one and easily go get a burger at the local Sonic.

I like the running boards the best, to me, they add a lot to the picture and the lines of the car.

Am I all about show cars? Hell, NO! IS that car something Id build, no, Im too much of a functionalists, and I prefer a vehicle that a friend or two can ride in also. Are these types of cars my thing? Not particularly. But, that car is deffinitly neat to look at, and better work that 98% of the population will ever build themsleves (not paid for someone else to do the work)! Its better than anything Ill ever build.

Look at the distance from the seat cushion to the bubble - unless your head is connected directly to your ass - I'll stand by what I said. I've got nothing against the workmanship, SamIyam's comment on the blue one fits here too.

I do really like Bones Noteboom's wagon and I'm looking forward to seeing it in person next month.

I'm hearing some rumblings about some hand built dracula car or something thats suppose to take some awards?? Got any photos of that??

I heard too that Lobeck built a contender that is really suppose to be different. A combination of both a 32 body with a 40 style front end. Steel material but probably just another lifeless tub with no soul.
One fellow I know seen it in an incomplete state and said it definitely is a different looking car.. We'll see... I cant imagine him being too creative.
