this year at the dallas autorama you will find a wide selection of traditional hot rods which includes, the green grenade, madg***er, the snot rocket, my low 30 sedan, and many more.
i was there last night. Met and talked with Brad. Some cool cars there. Others not so cool. I had a good time. but i am not like a lot of you guys here. I enjoy the traditional hot rods and cars, but I also enjoy some of the new technology and safety that has been brought to hot rodding since the 60s.
I thought it ****ed as usuall. Typical late model stuff, small 32 section, quite a few 57's but this show has just lost the feeling. the coolest car their was the CARS life size car. I did get to see some hambers, meet a couple, and hang out with some old car showers i knew when I was a kid going to shows with my dad.
I second that Eric but also late model big tachs and gay stickers or fake g***ers with air bags are pretty gay too. Just my humble opinion though Rusty
I pretty much like a little of everything from late models, muscle cars, street rods and so on. I prefer traditional or traditional influenced. That being said the Dallas show has NEVER been very steller at all. Since the Mopar Club took it over it is actually much much worse than it used to be. To me most of the time when a make specific club takes over something like this it hurts it. I also really kind of miss the kustom calvacade. The Ft. Worth show really kicks the crud out of Dallas. I still go, but it really is a so so experience. It beats sitting in front of the tube and the worst car show is better than the best day working
Hey neighbor! Stop by the shop when you get a chance. The doors are closed to keep the heat in, just beat on the door! Tim www.irrationalmetalworks.com
I wouldn't say there aren't any cool cars there...just nothing new. I love the Green Grenade and the snot rocket, the Lucky 13 cars are cool, and there's a bad *** stock all black '58 Vette with dogdish hubcaps (if you're into that kinda thing....I kinda am!) at the show. But most of those cars I've seen, and have been around for a while. They REALLY dropped the ball with the 75th ann. of the '32 thing. It's almost like they intentionally picked the ****piest '32's in all of DFW to show off. The organizers are clueless. The show will continue, because the majority of the people there don't know what they're looking at and don't care. You're typical indoor-car show goer probably doesn't have a hot rod and just likes looking at the shiney cars. Which is fine I guess. But for actual car guys, yeah, it ****s. Who the hell really wants to see drag boats, tow trucks, and conversion company Avalanches?
i always compare the dallas autorama to the detroit autorama, and it doesn't compare. i think i am going to save my money and go to detroit next year. it seems to me the dallas show is a lot more "the same" cars every year and none of them being traditional or significant. what did happen to the cavalcade of customs? i am with Rusty that the coolest car there was Lightning McQueen. we really need more cars like the Dirty's cars. and Eric, rack and pinion steering is not gay, it is just not RAT-ROD-erific!
I've been forever spoiled by the Indianapolis show. However, for a person Jones'n for a car show this one fit the bill. My 2yo daughter and I went early on Friday and we saw Lightning McQueen and a few other cool cars. It wasn't nearly what we had in Indy but it will do. <---- Actively watching for OTHER shows better than this in the local DFW area!!!!
i went... i saw... i threw up in my mouth a little. then a little more. some very cool cars there, but of hell of alot more that ****ed. did you get your picture taken with lightening mcqueen? i did, but with my kids of course.
So you just wanted me to go to buy the beer again! Got there around 4:00 but you and Kelly were gone. Thats O.K. got to drive the coupe, drink free beer, and got in free. We all say we are not going next year but we all seem to go. Sure beats staying at home!
Why is it do you guys think there are not as much traditional rods participating like the Detroit show and such? Just no interest? Price of registration? Not enough room? Politics? Seems there are tons of traditional rods in the DFW and surounding areas. It would be awesome if they could fill a whole section of the Market Hall with HAMBer type cars. Am I dreaming?
Double edged sword...the guys with tradional cars ***** because there aren't traditional cars in the show.....but then (for the most part) don't pony up the $$ and time to have their own car in the show, or hates indoor shows. If you think about it, just about everybody with a traditional car in the local area knows or knows of everybody else with a traditional car anyway. Also, we've got Pistons n Paint, Goodguys, and most of us make the trek to Austin for the Roundup....so really there's nothing that would be in the autorama that we wouldn't see anyway, and without being roped off at that. So all the *****ing doesn't make a lot of sense in the first place and we should stop (myself included).
All true but the other problem is Dallas can just be odd overall. We are the largest new car market in the US and the new car show is nothing. Hot rods, kustoms, muscle cars and so on are everywhere and yet you never see the cars. Dallas is a town where the cars get built and go to a garage. Hell, my dad sold a pretty well known green 58 Bel Air years ago and we found out is was in a garage 15 minutes away from his house all this time. I can name countless cars that you see (if your lucky) once a year. It has been that way all 39 of my short years and my dad and all his old buddies have always talked about it. I know of Shelby Cobra's and Shelby Mustangs sitting in garages that have not moved in years. I know of one old doctor guy that has a 300 that I have never seen on the road once. Some big buck lawyer guys in town have a huge collection that includes the nicest 65 iris mist GTO vert I have ever seen and they also have two maching 58 bonnies...one is a tri power car the other a factory fuel injetion car and both are verts on top of that! I know of a few 32's that are like this...and the owners will not sell them either. I really feel Dallas is way out of the norm on this. Every city has cars like this, but Dallas is just odd. The mopar guys running it ain't helping either.
If you arent part of the solution... the only reason i put my car in the show was so you guys didnt have to look at one more GTO. seriously, outside of the Lucky 13 display I only saw one custom and it had radials on it. There were a few cool hotrods. We are CAR guys damnit! do your part. For every HAMB car entered is one less ________ car you have to look at. Crash.
My favorite thing was the flathead powered midget racer in the big room with the vintage literature and posters about midget racing. I had a cool display.
