Well we bought a 33 Plymouth that used to race in the late 60's. Not sure if it should be built back as a gasser or a rod. Does anyone have any pics of the Hermansader and Metz 33 Plymouth that used to race around PA.? I also picked up a 331 Chrysler Industial Hemi that ran the water pump for Silver Spring Speedway for a roadster I'm going to build for our trip to Bonneville this summer.
You suck Jr, JK. I'd trow that hemi in the coupe and paint it up like it was or build it up Bonneville style and drive that out, roadsters just mess up your hair, lmao. Nice score, I'm jealous. later shawn
I think a drag car would be bitchen! But if you go and sell those rear slot mags... give me a hollar via PM... I dig 'em in a funky way! Sam.
The frame was real ugly on this thing. They made a 4 bar type rear suspension out of 1 1/2" square tubing. No heim joints just a bolt through the tubing. I think a gasser style car with a safe chassis and painted like the Stewarts Root Beer version would be cool. Before I saw the pics I was thinkin a chopped full hooded hot rod would be the ticket for this car. Clark
I really dig 33-34 Dodge/Plymouth coupes...nicely done. That looks like a Boss 429 to me and not a Cammer, Tman (but then I'm using a laptop and fairly "vintage" eyes, too). See if you can find Mickey Hale's gasser coupe anywhere (Google it or check out gassermadness.com) for some inspiration.
where did you find THAT in pennsylvania! nice score man, i thought they were all rusted and gone back there.
We found this in the Auto Locator this week and were just lucky enough to be the first ones to see it. It did have a 428 Boss at one time along with an Olds. Silver Springs Speedway closed up last year for more department stores. It's a shame they had one of the best 410 speedweek shows and a great crowd on a regular night. Boones...it wouldn't fit in the back of the Sprinter with all that rubber on the back. Muttley...what frame is under the coupe with the white walls? Skate Fink... I've known Karl for years he is a forty something wanna be skate boarder! Levi that was a sweet car you had there!
Cool find on that 331 Hemi... Really cool to get an engine with history, especially one from a speedway. - Joe
Does that first B&W picture have a "Stewart's Root Beer" logo on the door? It's hard to make out. A friend of mine built & raced a '33 or '34 Plymouth coupe in the Allentown area back in the mid to late '60's & I believe it was sponsered by our former (& long deseased) employer who owned a Stewart's in east Allentown. I think it had a B&M hydro shifter, with a non-GM motor. I know he joined up with an older & more experienced local drag race team, but I don't recall their names. The group may have gone by the name of Speed, Inc. This couldn't by some far out chance be the car, could it?
440...they say it ran in the 9 second range. fleetside...this must be the car. It has Allentown PA on the roof and Stewarts Root Beer on the door and the pic was from Nov. 1967. In 1967 it had an Olds engine and steelies on the front. The other shot has Hermansader and Metz on the door with Boss 429 behind that. The sponser was Hermansader and Metz Speed Equipment of Hamburg PA. In it's final years it had back fenders, Hermansader and Metz Speed Equip above the doors and Snoopy on his dog house saying "Good Grief" on the trunk lid. The diamond was still on the door but no sponser had been added.
Unbelievable! At odd times, I actually helped him work on this car. We were good friends. He was a big hot rodder in the day, mainly with Valiants & Barracudas. I was with him for many street races (stupid, stupid, stupid kids). What's going to surprise you even more is that he's still around. I spoke with him fairly recently. I'll PM you with his name & phone number. I don't know if he'll have any pictures of the car, because he lost a lot of his stuff in Hurricane Ivan. He had a four car garage in an alley that he & two other guys rented. I hanged out there quite a bit.
Blackwall car is owned by Rich and has a custom 32 Squeek Bell chassis which is awesome, the WW car which is mine has an original 33 Ford frame. [/quote]
