Yesterday Buckle and I went up to OldSwede's house to pick up my new project. A 1930 Model A C-Dan. I've been wanting a sedan for quite a while now. Of course I'm not doen with my chevy so I'll have to show M***ive restraint to NOT work on the A until the 51 is done. I'm just happy as a pig in **** to get this car....We had to go up north to Cadillac to get it, 3 1/2 hours one way, not too bad..
Just wanted to thank OldSwede (Jeff), his son JT and his Grandson for the help. Also gotta thank Buckle for being my wingman all damn day getting the car! If anybody has extra roof panels that go above the doors, PM me!
My plans are to go traditional, mild chop, and channel. But instead of a SBC or Flatty I'm going to run a 235, why? Because I like them and when I see an old hotrod with an inline it makes me smile Besides I have two of them collecting dust. First I gotta do some body work and figure out the ch***is.
Nice score! Without the fenders it just begs to be lowered, eh? Betcha can't stay away from it Flatman
Looks like a great start. I wonder how many guys are building A's in Michigan? I bet you can't stay away from it either. My plan was to finish up a C-10 project and drive it everyday, but it's now behind the barn and the coupe is in it's place.
Nice! I had to move my second project to to a storage place so I wouldn't work on it till I finished my first one.
Congrats on that second project also. I told myself there was no way I would start on a second one till the first one was done. Guess what, I already have some parts collected for number 2. Damn it!! Good luck - oh yeah, I can't wait to see some mid thirties weather this week, it will make me think of spring! Mike
Thanks Guys! The 51 will be done first, hell I already bought a lot of the things I need to do to it. I'm in the middle of redoing the rear leafs then, onto the front end, disc brakes and suspension rebuild. Once that's done the 51 should be a good driver, the sbc is already set, I hope. After that I'll start on the 30, hopefully this summer, and drive the 51 as is. First on the plan is to build the frame up, box the stock rails and Z the rear. Next is to suicide the front axle with the tube cross memeber and spring mount. I'm hoping I dont have to Z the front and use the spring mount to lower the front end. As I said at the top, I'm going to run a 235 and after measuring the stock rear out of my 51 it is pretty close to the right size for the 30, a little long, but I hope I can make up the wheel base difference in the Z of the rear and extending the front, not sure yet. It's all in the planning stage right now, and I'm going to be looking for help from the GMB on doing it right!
Aaron, sorry I missed this post the first time through. Now I WANT one. I've got to sell my 54 Bel Air first!
I missed this post the first time too. Congrats on sedan!! Let me know if ya need any help. You just better not get your sedan on the road before I do.... Oh hell who am I kidding? As for panels, there is a guy in mid michigan with a ton of A parts. I'll send you his info once I dig it up.
Cool, I did get one side for above the door off of ebay but it needs ALOT of work. I'm still working on the chevy, but I'll tell you that A is calling to have work done. Of course Chuckspeed didn't help by letting me borrow Vern Tardel's book, man if that doesn't make you want to build a hotrod I don't know what will!
.............."I'm going to run a 235, why? Because I like them and when I see an old hotrod with an inline it makes me smile Besides I have two of them collecting dust." How about sending one of them 235's my way? There just don't seem to be any such animal up here. Nice project, enjoy!
Ahh, I'd love to but I've got another 51 chevy that I plan on putting the other inline (actually a 216) in and trying to sell. Besides I don't think a HAMB relay up to the Big Empty will be too easy
Ya know...........there might be a tiny nailhead down Texas way that is not going to be used in anything soon.............If we ever get that Project Puick going............Man! is it still snowing up there? U gotta move to warmer climes............ Congrats on the '30..........looks way much better than either of my ole Hups.......... M.
Nope no more snow, 78 with not a cloud in the sky today, absolutley perfect day! That day was in Feb. and in norther lower michigan, cold *** day for sure! A nailhead would be sweet for sure, but I need to use the 235 to get it out of my garage!
I'll bet you already got out the masking tape and played around with the amount of chop on that thing didn't you? Cool project, here's mine with a 6" chop and a 6" chanel.
Yeah Lucky, I've photochopped it a bunch of times, I like the 6" chop that looks about right, I still want a back seat (kid) so I'm going to have to see how much of a channel and Z I can do.
