    Hey guys,

I have been planning on doing this for a while now but just hadn’t gotten around to it till now. Thought I would share some vintage pics with you all on here of my inspiration for my sedan's build up. These are pics of a REAL hotrod, showing you how its evolved over the years and still never missin a beat. This car has been a hotrod on the streets around here for over 40 years now, and still owned by the same guy that built it. That’s the guy that has taught me what I know about hotrods, my hero. . . that’s right guys, its my Dad… also known on here as Tombstone. He has built a few cars over the years but this is the one that has always been my personal favorite. So I figured I would show you a little history on this set of wheels.

The pictures are old so the quality is lower...but all waaaay kool!

Purchased back in 64 for a mere 5 bux as it had a deckid full of bullet holes and not too many of the antique guys were even interested...

By 67 it was on the road, terrorizin the streets of town with its strong SBC, dual quads, and cut down 57 Chev fenderwell headers, and a set of cheaterslicks.

Once some bugs were worked out and it was completed, it was entered in the car shows. In these days this car was channelled 10 inches over the frame.

The end of the 60's brought with it an actual paint job and again some more shows
    [IMG]

After a few years past it had a face lift. The channel was backed off to being a 4 inch channel and some bobbed fenders. This was 1972
    [IMG]

This was a Hotrod that was NOT afraid of ever taking a roadtrip, camper in tow as well.

Winter of 72 brought upon a new paint job, Pearl orange is what it became and with some help of some buddies it was ready for the summer again.

This was at the Canadian Street Rod Nationals in 74, at a picnic that was being held. Some of you may recognize that 34 Sedan behind my dads rod...

As seen by the "new set of wheels" havin children never stopped this car from goin places.

Another bit of a new look
    [IMG]

Now enter the 80's and in 83 it was time for a major overhaul on the car. It became a hiboy, not being channelled anymore. Now on 32 rails, with a 35 truck shell leadin the way, it gains a whole new look all over again without missin a beat.

The car had stayed in this form for several years with only minor updates being done. A couple years ago I helped my dad to "update" the car one more time, giving it a more true nostalgia feel. The milled grill insert was replaced with a round rod one, a 40 dash was added, 36 plymouth headlights, some paint updates and new wheels. This is the CURRENT incarnation of this car. This car is THE car i grew up around and knew from day one as a hotrod. Both my brother and i learned to drive on this car as well as learnin to drive a stick on this car. We both were able to drive this car to high school as well while building our own hotrods in the mean time. Everyone in my family has put MANY miles goin to rod runs and car shows all over the country. This car even attended the 50th at Bonneville too.

This car is a REAL HOTROD !!!

    Great story.
I'm glad to see it made it through the 80's without getting an easter egg paint job.

Yeah i cant see dad gettin rid of it to anyone outside the family at all there. Hell he's still havin too much fun drivin it as always to think about gettin rid of it anyways...

Thanks everyone for the comments, just figured i would show ya some of the reason i am in this Great hobby of ours here. Ever since i was a kid i can remember seeing the pic of this car channelled way low and so I HAD to build a 28 that was channelled down low as well. I certainly wasnt tryin to follow a fad or something with my sedans build up. This ones in my blood!! Thanks Dad!! :)

  12. great to see the connectivity one car has to a family....and to the extended family right here. Nice. Thanks for sharing, Kruzer63. My cars are going to my kids, too. I didnt build em to sell em. They're more valuable in other, more personal ways.

WOW...great story and great pictures Brent, thanks for sharing them with us. You're right, this is what hot rodding is all about and now I can see how you got the itch!
That is so cool that your father still has the car and all those pictures showing the different changes over the years.
I'll bet a few guys like desoto will recognize the '34 and the other cars in the CSRN pic also!

Brent, I really think that the grainy photos add to the authenticity of the whole story. If those photos were crisp and clear, no one would believe you. With those photos, who can doubt you?

Great story, better life! Keep that car for the grandkids to enjoy!

That is one of the coolest stories Ive read on here! To see the constant intrest at almost all times for that car to change to be better and better instead of letting it rot away after a paint job or two is amazing! It was like another child to him the way he was always putting thought into upgrades and changes over years and years! thats awsome! Great pics too!

  21. Cool trip down memory lane.
    Thanks.

I'm really liking the 35 truck grille shell . . . nice touch.

I've seen many attemps of people trying to use a 35/37 pickup grill shell on a Model A and they usually look just terrible. Your dad pulled it off in great fashion. I like it !

Thanks again to everyone for all these comments. Just a bit of Canadian rodding history that i felt that I should share...especially since the rod gets driven still and still can draw attention anywhere it goes.
