I'll try to help, but I'm more familiar with the 55-57 Chevys. Are you saying that both engine/****** combos have the side-mount transmission mounts? What's the setup in your 53? My first thought is that this shouldn't be a big deal.
You need the flywheel/bell housing and starter to match, either all 54 and older or all 55 and newer (or all 6v / all 12v, same difference). Also, the motor mount locations are off slightly, but will work with patience. 53/54 are there own animal, 49-52 are front motor mount, 55-57 went back to front motor mount. then 58 and up went back to side motor mounts in trucks, and maybe cars, but not exactly like the 53-54 side mounts. Other than that, its a bolt in.
The motors should be interchangable. The only difference is the truck front mounts might be on a plate in front of the motor under the timing cover. The car has side mounts. The block should have the holes to move the mounts to the side for what you need. The bellhousing on the truck will not fit the car, but you can use yours from bellhousing on back. From what I know, almost all of the 235's from all years will work for you. May have to rig up the acclerator linkage as the boss on the block might be off a few inches per different 235's. Hope this helps and hope you get it back on the road soon.
Also, either engine ('58 or '60) will require either a modified water pump, or a repositioned radiator for clearance.
Here is a link that fully describes such a swap: http://www.webaccess.net/~pstair/ChevyEngineSwap.html Hope you find all required info there.
