Finaly found out how to post pics, so here is some progress. It's a 53 Dodge 4-door. Tearing it all down for paint and new floors now. Before (Trailers ****) After Tell me what u guys think
The paint on there looks nice. Why are you tearing it down for a repaint? Sure, if the floors need work, I can understand that, but the paint is pretty decent, I wouldn't mess with it. Even if the paint isn't that nice up close, it looks good enough in a picture that I wouldn't bother with it. Run it for a few years until it really needs to be repainted, then do it. Spiders look good too, you need to grind or Krylon those tires into WWW's and maybe add some trim rings to get the full effect. Looks like a nice car, I like Mopars.
Thanks for the input guys. Yes, I do want to make trim rings for the spiders. The paint is about 5 different shades and full of orange peel. Going to get Bias-ply wide whites and paint it swaude dark blue with a metalflake silver top.
Welcome to the 4-door club! very nice looking, dig the stance all the way, looks mighty clean for a midwest car. What's the story with the scoot in the background, single beemer? Nice garage too, looking to adopt?
Yea, thats my dads 1957 R26 250 single Bmw Unrestored It has 112,000 miles on it. The previouse owner rode it to work at the coal mine everyday and my grandpa bought and my Dad inhearted it. We also have a 1965 R50/2 500cc twin Bmw with a Ural side car that we are restoring. I ride a 1971 R60/5 600cc Twin. I got my licence in the spring when I turned 18 and I love riding! The car is from Florida, thats why it is so clean. No heater, no raidio, hell it doesnt even have armrest! Sorry we can't adopt people that own Chevys. Mopar only. (The yellow ones my dads 40 sedan non tradinal though.)
Does Anyone else on hear have a 53 or 54 dodge or Plymouth? I nead a set of leaf springs for the rear.
Ok, so it has been a few months now and I have got a lot done. I am going to college for machine shop from 8-3 mon thru fri and I work two jobs besides that so I don't have that much extra time. I spend all my free time on it but I couldn't do it without my dad.(thanks dad). I guess I will just keep posting everything on this thread. Here's some pics of it when I tore it all apart. Front clip is off and I am ready to pull the motor. I took the pan off the motor and s****ed all th sludge out and painted and detailed everything. I wish I could afford a rebuild. I bought a D/A sander and some sand paper and went to town. The body on this car is 98% rust free but the floor is a different story. It is amazing what some galvanized tin, 100 sheet metal screws and a 1/2 inch thick layer of fibergl*** can hide. Can you say big mother****ing holes! The giant hole that was left after we cut all the rust out of the drivers side. My dad showed me some tips on welding sheet metal and I did a lot of the welding myself. What fun. For the front floor pan we made a big factory style access panel to remove the whole master cylinder and pedal ***embly, and we made a smaller one for putting in fluid. The rear floor pan. I took it outside today to turn it around to to do the floors on the otherside. Hopefully it will be back together by spring!
Finnaly, this weekend I am going to a local Hambers house (Packrat) who is going to sell me a set of rear springs from a parts car that he has. Stupid weather has put this off for 2 weeks. Hopefully these won't break like the other ones.
good luck...I dig those early 50's mopars...I have 53 and 54 plymouth wagons...used to have a 54 dodge royal with a 241 hemi and a 50 dodge biz coupe (wish I still had that one...though I like the plymouths better)...those flatty 6's are darn near impossible to kill
Awesome Tom! Seems like you have a pretty good eye for style. What kinda paint you gonna use for the body? Same stuff as mine? If you want flat metalic you can do what clark did on his 48 pickup and do base coat metalic color then clear it with flex & flat clear. While your at it....you guys should bag your car. haha. Its gonna be rad though. You better go to the HAMB drags and Hunnert Car Pileup with us this summer.
Nick, I will be going to the pile up and hopefully the hamb drags too. As far as color goes I'm thinking of going with the paint/flat clear because it is more permanent. For this season I am just going to get it media blasted and put it in some primer sealer. Doing the bodywork and shaving as I get time. I am saving my money for some drop spindles from Fatman (3 in.) so that should really get it low. Here's a pic of a kick*** shoebox from fatbody on here. I want to go with something close to this color maybe a little more blue than purple. Hopefully I will get a new rearend with lower gears so I can keep up with you guys. Right now top cruising speed is like 65. Even though I've had it up to the valve floating speed of 85. (it was still pulling!) See you around. O yeah your car looks awesome in street rodder.

You might consider a 5 spd ****** behind that flathead six, let it stretch it on out there without the windup. If you go to wilcap.com, I think they have everything you need there. Nice little Dodge, hopefully I can get my '55 Plymouth going this Spring/Summer at the latest. Love the Mopars. Jerry
I'll update more when I get off work tonight. New pas. side bodymount and new floors all the way around. Also got a new rearend with 3:54 gears instead of 3:73 and got some rear springs bc the other one snapped in half. Packrat sold me these parts from a 53 he has. Hopefully this weekend I am going to raise the driveshaft tunnell. Then I am going to get it media blasted. Question: Should I do all the body work and shaving and throw some primer sealer on it? Or should I paint it the sweude now? Because later on I want to put 2 door doors on it and chop it. I guess it would be easy to reshoot it after the chop.
Breakin down the rearend and cleanin everything up. Made a big mess in my dads garage. Ha. Ha. Sweet revenge for all those years of me being his light stand!
They are longer. All the bodylines are striaght and so is the rear window opening so it shouldn't be that hard to take a section ot of the rear door . The b-pillar is spotwelded in so that will be easy to move back and weld whats left of the rear door in and vwala, a 2-door with a 4-door roofline. There is mud all over the floor u just can't see it.
it all looks good, im in the same boat as you i have a 53 plymouth 4 door , same color scheme. still trying to figure out what to do. mines all stock and has no rust, so i dont know if i should mess with it to much. How did you lower it? cut springs?
I cut one coil off in the front and machined up some 3 1/4 inch blocks for the rear. I could probably cut another half coil off the front and shave down the front bumpstops and still get a good ride. The back was running on the driveshaft bump stop so I took it out for travel and the driveshaft would hit the tunnel when I hit a big bump.
