Favorite Flatmotor Vendors? Who do you like...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 345window, Mar 22, 2004.

  1. Who's your favorite to deal with and why? Mac has worked for me, and Joe Smith Hot Rods (YoungChoppers) has turned stuff around quickly. Flathead Jack's has the best catalog but it cost $8.00 (it's almost worth it for the tips and pictures)parts are quality/pricey. I have also bought things from Brownlee's (we set up near them in Hershy) great people to deal with.
Just curoius, who do you use for the best value?

Egge has a great inventory and can make anything that they don't carry, but they are a bit pricey. Joblot Auto in NY has about every little piece that you can never find at any store or swap, but their catalogs are always on back order. Reds Headers seems to have pretty good prices on internal parts, and speed parts. Hope this helps

I really like Mac's, Red's Headers, and Hot Rod & Custom Supply.

I really DON'T like Obsolete Ford Parts.

Joblot for all stock Ford mechanical parts, Red's for speed stuff, Drakes for repro body&trim bits.
At Joblot, just call and ask for Ray--he knows everything and you don't need the catalog anyway.
Drakes is a strange and dysfunctional place to deal with, but they actually make repro parts with significant points of resemblance to the originals.

I always start with Joblot. The guy who I normally order parts from on the phone is really knowledgable. I had to get one connecting rod once and he had me clarify the number on it to make sure I got the right one, and it turned out the rods were a different year than I thought. He quotes the old part numbers off the top of his head. I've had good luck with Early V8 Sales in update NY too. Usually get my order from both of those places within 2 days.

Flatlanders, Reds, Speedway, Autozone, NAPA, Macs are the ones I use.
Flatlanders is only 2 towns a way. When I have to do mailorder I try and buy it all from one place, shipping $ can get pricey otherwise.

Joblot, EGGE, Red's, Dennis Carpenter, and Sacto Vintage Ford are my favorites. Good prices and service from all of them. Sacto is getting a hundred or so of my money tomorrow, and Red, EGGE, and Joblot will pare another couple grand from my wallet in a few weeks.

I like Red's Headers (Marlyn is great & Red will answer tech questions), MACs, Sacramento Vintage Ford, and Hot Rod & Custom Supply. Flathead Jack is also a good guy to deal with (will answer tech questions), however he is pretty pricy and charges $8 for his high quality catalog. He does stand behind his products though. Bob Drake's place is flaky as hell and they ding the shit out of you for shipping (mandatory FedEx). They are less than 150 miles from Portland and they charge more than MACs does to ship to me from back east. Go figure! They also have the most screwed up catalog known to man. They charge you for a binder, then they send you updates. You can also buy his stuff from MACs for less than he charges. When I do buy his stuff (very high quality), I buy it at the Portland Swap Meet and save the heavy shipping expense.
