    No, its not mine.

    It belongs to another HAMBer....

I did try to buy it at some point but it was too far off ( size wise ) for what I wanted to do.

( I'm thinking about using a Bugeye Sprite nose instead, if I can find one...)

Absolutely not a Devin, at least not any production one. It has none of the distinguishing characteristics of a Devin body. None of the curves match any Devin body's curves...not the grill opening, fender lines, wheel arches, instrument pods...none of them. We have an brand new, unused Devin body with doors in our attic...that thing is another beastie entirely. That said it has a lot going for it given that it's unique.

Metalshapes, did you ever trace any more info on your Morgensen chassis?

it is definetly not a Devin.

The front grill opening is very similar to a Devin and the hood opening appears to be similar in size and shape to a Devin "+6" body. However, Devin "+6" bodies were deeper then the regular Devin body and this one appears to be closer to the original body dimension.

Also, the scallops for the instrument cluster: although they mimic the Devin in that they are semetrical, thereby allowing the potential for steering on either side of the car, their shape is nowhere as refined as the Devin's.

This body appears to be wider than a regular Devin. Normal Devins measured approximately 62" wide in the front and 60" across in the rear.
This body appears to be wider than then that.

Also, your body has very long doors. Some Devins did have long doors, but they were more graceful the the doors on your body.

What is interesting about your body is that it has provisions for running lights and a rear license plate. Most Devins did not have these, and when they did, they were of a different style from the way your body is shaped.

Although the front hood opening is similar to a wide Devin (+6"), the rear trunk lid opening does not appear to follow the Devin's shape.

So, I am positive, your body is not a Devin, or a Byers. It may have started from them, where a Devin was cut and pieced to enlarge the body to fit the particular need of the builder, but it is not a Devin product for sure.

Here is a picture of one of my Devin bodies (natural fiberglass amber), my Devin "Wide-Body" (Grey); a Devin +6 (Green); and a DEvin SS (Red):

Most of the responses have touched on a lot of the more popular bodies, but here are two Allied's:

I tend to agree with Beach Bum, I don't think the body is a Byers, but it appears to be closest to a Byers than any other bodies that I know of. This is a Byers:

Yeah, thanks to CR here on the HAMB, I have been able to talk to some guys that knew and worked for Dick Morgensen.

So more clue's that this is the Morgensen Special Boyd Hough and Dick Morgensen built for Tracy Bird.

And I have seen a pic of it!!

Its on a box set of DVD's "Films of the Fabulous Fifties" by All Moss.

I'd like to buy a actual Photograph from All Moss, if possible.

That pic would be very helpfull with the restoration...

And I'm still collecting parts for it.

The body shape was a lot like the '54 Morgensen Special that later became ol Yeller #1 ( but by that time it looked a lot different...)
    pic 1 , 2 & 3

But it was two tone Black and Purple.

Last pic is of my Car the way it looks now...

Metalshapes , here is a Devin that was racing at the Coronado Vintage Races. One trick piece and it hauled the freight. I especially like your U2 Clubman. I have a '65 Super Seven and always lusted after Mallocks. What else do you have. I have always been a "Special" fan and prefered them over the factory jobs. Please post a few photos of your U2. Thanks, G

    Boss,

Do you have those two Allieds? The fellow that found them and had them on Ebay contacted me last year about them. A couple of years ago I found a Allied bodied Swallow Doretti that had raced out here in the '50s. It was in really bad shape but a friend of mine bought it sight unseen. It had sat in the front yard of a house in Modesto for like 17 years.

    Cheers,

    Kurt

Well, while we're at it, here's an Ambro bodied Peerless (Triumph TR powered) that a friend of mine has owned and raced for years.

That's the only one I've seen lately. I'll ask my mom to go through her old photos to see if she has any more.

It does not look like a Glasspar. The Woodill Wildfire is the same thing as a Glasspar. Glasspar made the bodies, Wildfire is badging. Also on an unrelated note, Glasspar made the first Corvette bodies as well. Glasspar was made by the Glasspar company of California which I believe was a fiberglass boat company originally.

There are quite a few Glasspar photos between the site listed below:

    Hope this helps...

I still think it was an amusement ride for kids unless that guy in the jeans is Andre the Giant. I'd like to see 2 adults try to sit side by side in that seat opening.

  21. The blue vintage racer at Coronado is my buddy's 1957 Devin Special...he also owns the Devin name/company and the molds...I'll shoot him the pictures and see what he thinks it might be. This car is a blast to drive and he did a beautiful restoration on it.

Who cares, build a chassis and get it on the track. Just guessing but I'll bet a set of 53, 54 Corvette headlights would fit it and it's got room for the teeth too. Funny there's no provision for tail lights yet it has that license plate cove. I think it was a work in progress that never got finished. I'm guessing some kind of kit car or it would already have the holes cut for tail lights and rear bumper brackets, etc. As is, it looks like you could put in a lot of different ones and something like 62 vette bumpers.

Tredboy and I set that body on top of my office so it is now shop art!

I was told the body was a Devin and bought it from a guy in Fallon, NV. When it showed up here I knew it wasn't a Devin and wouldn't work for me unless I could prove there was 50 bodies made in order to qualify for the class I wanted to build a car for.
That was why Bob K posted the original post trying to help me identify the body on the HAMB.

If someone is interested in building a car with that body, it is available for what I paid for it.
