What are stupid mistakes to look out for? Any search query I could think of didn't work out so well. It's a single barrel Rochester "BC" off a 53 chevy. Doesn't seem like there's too much to it. Kinda seems like it's like a 3d jigsaw puzzle. Soaked all the parts in carb cleaner and I have my rebuild kit. Am I missing something or is it not all that complicated?

Be sure and post how it goes. I'm about to do the same thing: Rebuild a B or BC carbs, when I can find some. I've never rebuilt a carb before, either.

Don't dismantle the carb too far.

If the throttle shafts move ok and the plates fit properly don't pull the throttle shaft out. Getting the throttle blades aligned properly again can be a real pain.

Other than that it's real simple. Clean area and go step-by-step, don't rush things.

Be sure to get a carburetor manual for your carb if possible. The sheet that comes with the carb kit never gives very good instructions and is very general because it has to cover a variety of models.

    Good luck.

It's already apart but I didn't pull the plates off. Soaked the body with them still on. They moved alright. I have a shop manual for the car with a section on the carb. Guess I'll start having at it later today. Thanks.

    what lotek said...

also takin pictures as you diss***emble might be a good idea when it comes time to put it all back together.

it was the first thing i ever did on my '54, and it went ok. make sure all the little holes are cleaned out entirely. i had one plugged that i didn't even know existed, until i tried to make it squirt and nothing happened.

    good luck

Absolutely. Take pictures of EVERYTHING you pull out as you pull it out, not just the big pieces. You'll be glad you did when you have two similar parts and are trying to remember which hole they came out of.

On the up side, those BC carbs are really hard to mess up. On my first rebuild, both my carb and my rebuild kit were missing parts, and I didn't have any instructions. It took me a while to get everything back together, but it still ran.
