anyone have any suggestions/preferences on where to get 3" lowering blocks/kits (u-bolts and what not)?

its for my '53 chevy sedan.

  2. I bought a kit at the local Autozone just for the u-bolts. It only had 1" blocks, but the box said the blocks weren't included! Go figure. If they don't have a 3" kit, get the 1", the u-bolts are looong, and I have many s****s of 2x3 tubing you are welcome to some if you want them. All you would need to do is but a bolt in the rectangle tubing to locate it between the spring and axle.

where in houston re you located? what color is your car?

    Buy them at autozone...

  4. If you've got stock leaf-springs, you'll need the skinnier blocks that places like Night Prowlers sell.

yeah pretty much everything on my car is stock for now... how much do you wanna lower your car?

  10. Damn...that was driving me nuts 'cause I know I ordered mine there, but it was a couple years ago and I couldn't find 'em either. I checked all the pages and it turns out they put 'em on the "Skirts" page under inventory. Weird...

I like the idea of making 'em too....cheaper and probably faster.

This is what we use in Oklahoma, about five in the trunk gets ya three inches. Can usually be picked up at any construction site after 6:00 p.m..lol

haha...yea, i've had some old school guys tell me they used bags of concrete in the trunk back in the day.....hehe...a little TOO primitive for me.

  17. I also have some 1 3/4" square tubing, we could weld two together and get 3 1/2" blocks, probably be stronger than the aluminum blocks I used to crack a hundred years ago when I had a mini truck.

  18. $110! I only want $100.:D Or a 12 pack of Natural Light.

i'm gonna hit autozone this weekend for a u-bolt kit.
and i'm wondering how low is TOO low with blocks...i've always been told 3" is max. i wonder how bad 4" would be.....

but yea, i may hit you up sometime here soon for that!

with that much of a "block-drop" you've still got a decent ride?
i mean, i'm not looking for it to be riding liek a caddy or nothing...i've just always been under the impression of anything beyond 3" block was "TOO" much.

i've seen the vids of your car driving around and it looks like its pretty smooth...and espeically out on those roads out in the hieghts...i know they ain't always purdy!

yeah runs pretty smooth, like you said not like a caddy but it's a comfortable ride for a 50 plus year old dropped car

for my 54 Poncho (pretty similar to your chevy I think) I bought 4" blocks, u-bolts and angle shims from Speedway. My stock springs were pretty narrow which meant the lower plates had a narrow u-bolt pattern. The blocks ended up being too wide and the u-bolts wouldn't line up with the holes. So.... I bought the universal lower plates from speedway also. Should go together all good now.

Don't forget about the pinion angle!

A better way to have done this would have been to get de-arched springs with shorter blocks (or no blocks) or bag-it. Will do that eventually.

4 inches might get you well past the scrub line. Never have thebolts too much lower than the rim, taller tires will be better . beee carfull, nothing like hitting a big bump and possibly ripping out the rearend as the shackles dig into the pavement

not a problem with the stock rear! :)

I have posies and a 2" block on the driver side, 3" on the p***.
I finally got it to sit level.

  28. I roll Lonestar, it IS the National Beer of Texas, after all!
As far as to much blocks, your rear axle tubes are probably 3", half of which would be 1 1/2" ,maybe 1" or less for the spring pad, 3 1/2" block, that's a total of 5" from the center of a 15" wheel, leaving 2 1/2" for your spring pack before going below the rim. If my math is correct, you should be O.K. De-arched springs when you get the $$$$ will be nice, and as long as you trim the bump stops and/or anything else that might be in the way (C-notch the frame? I have some pipe, too.) you will have a decent ride. Get out a tape measure!

Personally, I will never buy the Taiwan kit from Autozone B/C they are cheap pieces of **** that can't be tightened without pulling threads! I have been through 2 sets of their U-bolts and they are ****! They give ya' new ones for free (warranty) but it never changes the fact that they ****!!! All of em'! F em'

    Sorry

  30. Good to know, I will buy some good ones from a fastener supply when the time comes to actually drive my heap.
