i used to watch it as a kid. it only aired for 2 years. it was based in chicago in the 1960s. there were a ton of old cars in it. it was in syndication on A&E a few years ago. anyone else remember this show?
That was a great show. They were showing the reruns on one of the cable channels every friday night. Then they had a weekend marathon and it was gone. Wish it had lasted. Mike
I loved that show! Still got a few old episodes on VHS tape around here somewhere...along with re-runs of other cool "cop shows" like "Spenser For Hire", "Starsky & Hutch", "High Incident" (my favorite!) and "Cagney & Lacey"! I grew up watching cop shows, now that I think about it...my mom was a Barney Miller junkie and I always liked "Kojak", "Adam 12", "S.W.A.T.", "The Rookies", "MacRuder & Loud", "Lady Blue" and "The Commish", a****st others. Nowadays it's "Law & Order" and it's off-shoots mostly!!!
yea it was a great show, but i used to get aggravated by the fact they werent as period correct as they could be.
All I really remember about the show is that David Caruso was in it believe he played a punk who wanted to me thug, believe the Pilot episode is/was available on DVD a few years back 36RRC
Yeah, that was a cool show. Dennis Farina drove a cool black old Chrysler 300 convertible that had a real nice rumble (hemi). A lot of actors got their start on that show playing small parts. I think Dennis Farina was a real Chicago cop before he somehow stumbled into acting. He had the tough guy cop at***ude down perfect. I like how he was always getting up in the face of mafia guys to get them nervous. There was another show that came out about the same time about some private eye guy who drove about a '57 Eldorado Biarritz and he had a t-shirt wearing teenage helper guy that had a cool '49 Mercury I think it was. In one episode, the Mercury supposedly got stolen and painted yellow and wound up in a chop shop in East LA. The kid was all upset that they painted his car yellow, but he got it back again at the end of the show. I can't even remember the name of that show, but it wasn't bad. Crime Story was better though.
I loved it when the 2 thugs drove out into the desert and hid in an abandoned house. Except the house is the one you see over and over in the nuke test video. Pauley was the coolest bad guy, the black guy with the cigar and shotgun was the coolest cop.
i got both seasons on dvd. actually dennis farina was a cop for 20 years before he started acting. i actually don`t know anyone else who even remembered this show ,besides my parents. i`m glad so many people here do. makes me feel like we are all on the same track.
Great Show. Great Cars. Well Acted, Filmed, written And, Yes, A Great Period Feeling. Luka's 300c Was Da Bomb! (tho A Bit Too Much Car For His Pay Rate,.....probably.)
I had forgotten all about that show. I remember the Chrysler now. I will be looking for the DVDS also.
Great show, great cars! Show got a little over the top (some call it jumping the shark) in Vegas toward the end of the run-was it season three? The other show with the Caddy detective and the Merc kid (Josh Brolin) was very good. It was called "Private Eye" or was it "Private Detective"? Anyone remember "M Squad" with Lee Marvin?
I loved watching crime story just for the Black '57 Chrysler 300-C convertible. That car is still around and looks just like it did in the show. A guy near Chicago owns it.
When it was in Vegas I got some drive time in it. They used the Motel right next to the car lot I owned a 1/3 of, and rented some of our cars. Two 56 Olds and a 54 plymouth. Cars got 200.00 a day, drivers got 50.00. Told me if I cut my hair and shaved my beard, they'd let me walk across the street on camera..another 200.00(union scale I guess). P***ed on that deal. Best part of the whole thing was the catering van. My buddy worked the gal running it and she slipped us about twenty porterhouse steaks and 20 lbs of waldorf salad. We ate great. Interesting thing was they shot most of it at night. Blocked off the street, and when they turned the lights on it was just like high noon. Working it was like the army....lotsa hurry up and wait.
My mother-n-laws nieghbor, did some of the cars for that show. He painted the '49 Mercury in his driveway.
Michael Mann was the producer of Crime Story, he also was the producer/director/writer for Miami Vice and movies Manhunter, Heat, Thief etc, etc. His signature is his cool cinematography and soundtracks. He's a car guy too, he had a battleship grey, big block, roadracer style 70 Chevelle that was featured in Hot Rod magazine a couple of years ago.
My old neighbors brother owned the Chrysler 300 (main car)before the filming and got it back after filming he still has it to this day.(Andy) I remember him coming over on weekends with it when I was a kid. It was origi****ly white. I ended up buying a white 59 Caddy that was used during filming. Lots of cool chicago cars were used. They didnt pay much but lots of people went for it. I know of one guy who let them use his car (George)and getting it back with a line lock installed on the rear brakes and they put tubes in the tires. He was upset that they cut into his brake lines and couldnt figure out why they did it. Then I remember watching the show one nite and seeing this car sliding around a few corners and it wheels into a parking lot and slides to a hault!! bingo its that guys car!!!! I cant beleive the way they treated it. From that day foward he would never leave his car with them. He did do it a few more times I guess they gave him a hat and a couple extra bux to stand around. Lots of cool stories around Chicago land about Crime Story
I have the 4 video set. Best ever line: Luka: "Where are we next week, Pauly?" Pauly: "I dunno boss. We aint there yet." I love that one. Oh yeah and this one as Luka throws a guy down a hole in the floor to the floor below: "Reward? Here's your reward, 2 broken legs"
