Yorgatron mentioned in another post he added a pcv-valve to a rocket motor. Anyone got pics of this for the olds? Can you eliminate the dumptube and block off the hole? Can I put a hole/grommet/pcv directly in the valley cover? This would be easiest, I think. Or has anyone come up with a different solution??
1st remove the road draft tube, then go to the auto parts and get a grommet that fits, and a PCV to match. then run a hose from the PCV to a hole cut in the bottom of the air cleaner,or plumb it into the base of the carb if it has a fitting for power brake vacuum. it's just that simple
Thanks! Did you remove the inner part (see pic) too? Damn that's going to be a big PCV - didn't know they made em that big - gotta be like 2" diameter. I'll post pics when I get her in. ps - did you see my other thread with the kooky rocker arms: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=164316 Noah
hey noah i know what your talking about its a big hole ive been trying to figure out how to accomplish the same thing. cory
OK - I think I got it. Cory-check the attached pics, you should be able to make out the part #'s for the grommet & PCV. The grommet fits well - but not super-snug, so I used silicone sealant too. I used nuts/bolts/silicone for the bolt-holes. I'll let you know if it leaks! Noah
Why not block off the old draft tube location completely and just drill a hole in the back of the valley pan and use grommit and pcv valve there? The pcv valve will need to be mounted vertically anyway to work best, atleast that's the way I did it on my Y block and it works great.
Just a thought on the round baffle can. Don't toss it, you may need it on there to keep from ****ing oil through the pcv. There is a lot of oil flying around in the lifter gallery when the engine is running.
A54 - that's what I was thinking too. I guess it's 6 of 1, half dozen...... I guess this way I didn't have to fab a blockoff and drill a hole. Hey - you driving to the Roundup? I live in San Angelo..... Noah
"Just a thought on the round baffle can. Don't toss it," Ahh-I still got it- maybe Yorgi'll chime in if he was able to go without it...
Baffles are pretty important. It's amazing how much oil can be ****ed through PVC's if they're not baffled. Another thought for any old draft tube engines, freeze plugs of vaious sizes can offen be used to fill unwanted big holes, sometimes also drilled for a smaller, snugger PCV and grommet.
The Baffle is back! The grommet worked even better now too. THANKS GUYS! - Don't know why I was so 'baffled' by this...
Noah, I went last 2 yrs, loved it, but his yr I'm holding out to go to the HAMB drags----- Have fun at the roundup. Richard
In honor of TECH WEEK - here's some pics of the finished product. It gets a little complicated when using a stromberg 4x2 setup with no vacuum/PCV provisions so you have to improvise. I used some 2" carb risers to give me somewhere to tap the PCV line into. (You'll need longer carb studs to accomodate the risers)
Then drill and tap a hole in the riser, install a fitting and attach the hose. Done! Of course this is untested - but I'm ***uming it won't affect the air/fuel flow. I'll let you know if it does!!
