Yesterday, three of us from the Poor Boys CC, went over to the UCD Children's Medical Center to present a check for $5,500. This money was raised from the pinstriping jam held at the Sacramento Autorama two weeks ago. Although we presented the check, the real thanks go to the 21 pinstripers for giving up their time and art work for the auction. I hope we can make a bigger donation next year.
I read that this was going to happen in the Sacramento Bee newspaper on Friday. Very cool! You guys rock, keep it up. Mike
It was one of those times when you feel good and bad at the same time. It was heartbreaking to see the kids in that environment but felt proud to know we may have helped one of them to go home.
See, this is the way it SHOULD be! Its suggestions similar to this that got me odd looks from the club I used to belong to in the past,....everything was always "too hard to do...." etc. Good for you guys,... this is a VERY refreshing thing to hear,....it improves the image of hot rodders everywhere, and most of all you are helping others in a very big way,...its a total blessing when you do this for people,....something I'd say 90% of Americans have forgotten all about! Most people dont realize that every little bit helps, even just the idea itself is a righteous and noble one that means more than you can imagine to those in need. The amount raised by you guys is really amazing, but ya know, others should NOT be daunted by the thought of a large sum of money being raised....which is to say, ANY amount is a fine gesture,...hell a Hot Rod Car Wash,..raising $300 bucks is better than nothing!! In fact, it doesn't even have to be a monatary gift, (though its very useful), but even the charity of one's time to others would make a difference,...a car show for kids, cancer patients, etc. Working with a votec school,...showing off the hot rods of your club and giving a small talk on history of hot rodding and how cars have changed from the past into today,...it shows you care, and you give a ****. I worked as a subs***ue teacher for about three years,....you'd be amazed how cool it was for the kids to see you bring in your buddy's 40 Ford Coupe and replace the distributor on it,....the questions were welcomed, (albeit sometimes overwhelming! HA!!!) but it was damn cool, and later you start talking to kids and suddenly their like "how could I build one of these??..." or "how hard is it to find an old car?....I'd like to drive something like that to school everyday!!" Its all about giving to others,...a sort of (yes it corny but its true),...paying it forward,...who cares if your school days were ****py,...make other's better than yours. Who cares if you don't have the means to raise much cash,...anything is a start! If you cant raise cash,....give your time,...take an intrest in other's well being. Stop on the side of the road when someone is broken down,..change a tire,...give them your club card (get one printed up if you dont have them,...it goes a long way!!)...one day it might be YOU on the side of the road. I pulled over on the way home from a flea market one day after seeing a few guys on the side ofthe road with an old 41 chrysler sedan. A yuppie in with Hudson stopped ahead and was there also, (his at***ude gave it away). It was as funny and hell,...they saw this car pull over,..and a tattood guy with greasy hair get out and start walking towards them. Obviously, this got them a little worried because when I got to the car, before I even said anyting they were like "oh we're ok,...we're ok....!!" But they WERE'NT ok! out of Four, quote "Car Guys,..." not one knew what the problem was. I introduced myself and shook their hands. I'm no expert by any means, but in about four seconds I knew the coil was leaking, dead and the battery was dying out, not to mention the some stuff was not grounded properly. I asked if any of them carried any tools and extra coils,...I ***umed they would have,...I got a blank stare for a few seconds and one flathead and a small adjustable wrench...LOL!!! The yuppie said he'd look to see if he had a coil laying in the trunk as he wisked away in his LL Bean ensamble,....opened the trunk and just came back,...said he didn't and that he had to go and couldn't stay,...offered no ***istance past that. Sadly, the owner said with a sad face "well, I guess I'll have to call a tow truck or a guy with a roll back to get it back home,.." turned to his family in the car and said he was sorry. My response??... "HELL NO!!! Are you kidding me?? Just because you dont have a coil, you're turning around and heading back home!!??...you are kidding right??....********! You're going to get to the car show/swap you're heading to,....I'm getting you a coil, stay here and hang out!!" I thought the guy was going to **** a brick he was completely amazed a total stranger would help him out!! HA! I got in the car, headed to the car show, told them at the gate that I had to pick up a coil for a guy stranded on the side of the road in a 41 crysler and I was not paying to get in to see the show,...went over to a guy I deal with all the time with electrical and NOS parts. He knows me, explained myself, got two coils, some extra tools and headed back. When I got back to the car, he was just blown away that someone would do this for him. I tell ya it was one of the best feelings I've EVER had!!! I quickly explained that I got his coil, (period correct too!!)here's an extra, and here's the guy I got it from,...just got to him tell him he was the guy I helped and to pay him for the coil he chose to keep...(he wouldn't accept a freebie). After all had p***ed he nearly wrestled me to slip me some cash for helping him out,...after strongly refusing it several times he wasn't going to let me leave without taking it. I ended up slipping some of it back into his glovebox!! he,he!! His family kept thanking me, and I made a friend that day. The best part was that it was a HUGE blessing to me to do that,....something people everywhere need to partake in,...its makes a WORLD of difference!! So to you Poor Boys,... Two thumbs up guys,...keep it up!!! Keep sharin' the love!
Good stuff, Bruce. Ultimately, all that matters are the children, but like said, this also gives hot rodders and clubs a good name. Thanks. Bryan
Nice to hear of the donation to a worthy cause. I would love to attend something like this myself. Looking at the artwork and meeting the artists...Way Cool

Id like to thank Von Hot Rod and Bruce, TJ and the rest of the Poor Boys for giving me the opportunity to participate in both the GNRS and Sac. Autorama pinstriping jams. To know that something I created, ended up helping people in need, is a great feeling! Lets do it again!
Nice work Bruce, had I known about it I would have sent you some stuff for the cause. Remind me next year and I'll do what I can to help.
