i had no complaints about one i bought a few years back . a fair deal for the money if you ask me

  3. I think most of the GM crate motors are made south of the border. My dad has had the base 350 in his 55 for 4 years with no probs.

Im on my second one.. I put one in my 34 and ive got one in my 32 coupe.. they run great and have a good warranty. if you break the cam in right you wont have any problems.

i've installed and built several for my customers. no problems. some were built VERY healthy and are still going strong, even with NOS on some.

I have installed 8 in the last 4 years..good little motors!
the only one that died was one Wal-Mart screwed up. (double gasketed the oil filter, driver didn't notice he had no oil presure.)

they REALLY like a 650 Holley and an air gap manifold. shorty headers warm them up a bit, also.

  10. Excellent info !!! what kind of cam/lifters would you reccomend and at what lift ? Ill probably be going with sanderson block huggers.. just so you all know ill be throwing this in a 50 chevy once i get everything i need.. and never done it before so pretty new to me.. i was thinking 64cc heads..

Thanks again for all the info..

Bang for the buck...off the shelf cam...
I gotta go with the Edelbrock Performer R.P.M. cam and lifter package. Call me nuts, but it is pretty close to ideal.
no additional stall converter neccecary (but a little one-say 2000 r.p.m.) doesn't hurt.

on the Holley- thier good 'ol vac*** secondary "Avenger" carb rules.
(Although, I must also mention I prefer Demons...the 650 "road demon" is the equilelant- the have alot more adjustment to them)

the Sandersons are fine, but in a 50 chevy, I would consider Dynomax part #86118- rear dump ceramic coated. you will fight with the steering linkage alot less. master cylinder needs to be moved over around an inch.

for Distributor- the new "Street fire" H.E.I's are nice! cheap, too!
it's nothing real special, just an all new h.e.i., but it comes with springs to adjust your advance curve, and you can replace any part of it at your local autozone. 124 bucks at my local Speed Shop.
not bad for 3/4 of your entire ignition system!

Carter Electric pump- I know, beating a dead horse on this one-I should get paid for advertising for them!
quiet, effective, long lasting, and easy to install.(you will probably have some clearance problems with a stocker.)

add some "el cheapo" chrome brackets, a set of Mooneyes or Cal Customs valve covers, a cast iron thermostat housing (the chrome ones leak.) and a couple hundred bucks of "erronious ****" (hardware, plugwires, plugs, oil and filter, water pump, belts, hoses, yadda yadda yadda) and you have a fine running, not horrifying to look at machine!

just don't forget to upgrade the brakes. the "go" of a 350 is alot more than the "woah" of a 50 chevy.
