Very cool, Chris! When I bought mine, it also was not licensed since '62. Mine is in good shape too, but not nearly as nice as yours. My drivetrain is out and I've never tried to fire the engine. Keep the pics coming!
Good score Chris. I agree with your build plan, run the fenders. So many cars are built without them these days. Other nice feature, or lack of is no rumble seat, just a trunk. Not too many like that anymore. Congratulations!
If I found one like that, I would get it running "as is". Update the brakes, wheels, then the V8 swap. Rodding it once piece at a time, while keeping it a driver, is the way they would have done it back then.
Wow! My 30 isn't that nice but I also got it from the Son of the Origional owner. He just didn't like the Car at all. It sat 3 years after his Dad passed away then he hung a For Sale sign on it. What's with these guys? I just drove mine today even though it's raining. It kind of re-charges my Batt. Now your gonna half to change your HANDLE, No Chop No channel. The Wizzard
Sorry for the delay, but I have been working on the ol girl all weekend. Saturday moring my Dad and I went to the Antique Auto Ranch and got all the tune up parts, fuel parts, hoses, wiring kit, ect ect to get her started. We worked until the mid afternoon rebuilding the carb, I rewired the engine and underdash (lights still need wired) went through distributor, hoses, fluids, fuel lines, sedament bowl, coil, ect. Then the time came. It turned over a couple times and lit off! She runs like a swiss watch! I am so thankfull my Dad has knowledge or Model A's and how they work, otherwise I would be lost!!! The car is amazing. It is a little more beat up than I thought, paint is non orriginal (has a pretty nice brush job on it, but it was an orriginal black car) but it runs great, fuel gauge works, speedo works, brakes works, and does not smoke, leak make nosie or anything. Today I checked all the tires, topped off tranny and diff, and was ready. I backed her out and drove down the road. She rides pretty nice! Needs the brakes and carb adjusted a little, but I think with a couple more weekends worth of work, could be ready for the road. I am now seriously consittering a banger engine, with the dropped axle, 16's, hydrallic brakes, ect, but man...theres nothing like a model A if you've never driven one! They are COOL. Thanks so much to my Dad for teaching me/helping me get this car on the road that sat from 1962 until now in a weekend!!!!! And to all of you for the encouragment. Here are a few before/after pics of the wash job, and a couple of my dad and brother going for a spin! So, anyone have any performance parts for an A????
Thats just plain cool. I have heard that if you want the paint a little shinier you rub it over with diesel.
chris, some people are born with golden balls and you my friend seem to have a very shiney pair,im going to send you 10 bucks so you can buy me a lottery ticket!!!!great find mate,,,bob ps the truck got to LA last friday
Thanks Bob, it's not luck, just the right place at the right time! I looked at the A Thursday, told the guy I would buy it, then went over to my dads to tell him of the car. I said I may sell my new 37 pickup to finance this new project, and he ended up buying the 37 from me (he's been buggin me to sell it to him since I got it) so we both ended up lucky! Glad to hear of the 46, I am going to mail you a bill of sale along with the add in the paper from when I bought the truck. I found it the other night Talk to you soon, Chris
Nice car Chris, your gonna have alot of fun with it! I have a 30' pickup, and like you said these things are a kick in the ass to drive!!
After a score like that, you should kiss your friend that found out about it right on the mouth. good luck with the build
This is an great story.find. This is why I let everyone I know I am into cars/hot rods. Seems like somebdy always knows some one trying to get rid of an old car.
The guy who told me about it is a car guy, and I think he just didn't want another iron in the fire. The car did come with an extra engine that he wanted fr his A pickup project, so I gave that to him as a "finders fee". He is all kinds of excited that I got it!!! He is also building up a peformance A engine, so now we can bond a little more
holy shit man! this is what we all strive to come across in one way or another. I am very happy for you. Good job.
To bad......I'm sure you paid to much & all that dust & crud build up.......I'd get rid of it NOW..........I just so happen to know this guy that would take it off your hands......cheap!! Best of luck if you keep it. Some guys have all the luck when finding scores like this.....you probably one of "them"1 PACO
Yeah, I'll be keeping this one. It'd not everyday you find a car like this. It really is a kick in the ass to drive...especially with no exhaust!!!
Good for you! I got lucky like that last year. What she looked like when I washed her after being in a garage in LA since '68 ans now during the build-up.
Yeah Chris, I saw yours and it reminded me of the day I picked mine up, Congrat's on the new car. Could you post a close-up of your grille? Is it me or is there some chromed metal screen behind the shell?
