This is a first for me as I read threads a lot more than I write (I will probably be a FNG forever).....I don't build models too often anymore but I thought you all might like this one. I did the paint and body work on the full sized car (Monkey Business) for one of my friends. Then another buddy came up with a die cast model that had some resemblance to the original. I couldn't resist the idea of modifying it to resemble the original. So far have the body modified and painted to match (sort of). I call it Monkey Business Jr. I really enjoy the Sunday Models threads and you guys out there certainly have a lot of talent! Done anything new lately??
That Chevy is gonna' look nice! I've been getting the engine for my '50 Ford together the past few weeks. The engine & heads are from the 49 Merc. kit. I drilled out all the bolt holes on the heads & added acorn nuts from Replicas & Miniatures of Maryland. I also modified the tops of the heads to be more like the 1:1 shape, & added the radiator hose inlets from another set of heads, & scratchbuilt the other connections. Most of the pulleys are scratchbuilt, & the belts are made of masking tape that has been painted black. The intake manifold & carbs are from the Revell 50 Ford kit. The oil filler cap, oil filter, & fuelpump bowl are all scratchbuilt. The generator is from Replicas & Miniatures of Maryland (pattern by Rik Hoving) & the air cleaners, distributor & starter are also from Replicas & Miniatures. I scratchbuilt the coils & all the carb. linkages. The angled spark plug boots were made by cutting a "V" notch in a piece of wire insulation, & bending it into a 90, & gluing with superglue. Steve
Varodder, thats gonna be bad***, post the followup next week Amazing work Steve. Thanks for exsplaining what you did also, because i have about 4 revell flatties, along with a few from AMT. Love the revells way better, and il be sure to try some of what you did on them, mainly this one im building now. Started this friday night, its revells Model A. Building it as a tow truck. Weathered using some acrylic craft paint and baking soda for texture, along with some dullcoat. Wheels and tires from revells 1936 delivery. Flattie gonna be from that also, along with the front and rearend. The bed is balsa and popsicle sticks. beat'um up some, and stain them,. then weather it.
I just picked up a 70's Revell 53 Chevy that I'm going to build the g***er version. Nowhere to the likes of some models posted here. Man, you guys make my head hurt with the details!!
If one of you pro model builders would be interested in building a model of the Berry Wagon for me I'd be interested in hiring you. I have a Revell model A sedan kit and that is as far as I am ever going to get. The truck is actually a little longer than the sedan anyway...I'll NEVER get to it and it would never look that good if I did. PM me if interested.
This is the Monogram 1/8 scale Big Deuce that I just finished the other day: The timing tag is a scan of a real one that I reduced to scale in Photoshop.
Wow!! that rust and wood in the back of the truck bed looks unbelievable!! Here are some models from Mitch that he wanted me to post this week.
Holy ****! that Model A cabover rules! ive never seen that done before, and im stealing that idea, sorry! but i am, i got the rpu cab leftover from the revell kit im building now.
That big deuce is beautiful! I'm throwing together this little 1/43 scale '47 Ford. Yes it matches my car. What can I use to paint the rubber tires white?
Sure, that's what sharing is all about. The coe has a cool little flathead 4. Mitch who is a friend of mine gets alot of his ideas from the the hamb and stuff he's seen in his family's old junkyard. His computer is down so I told him I load these for him this week. Thanks Joe
make sure its acrylic! enamel never dries, craft paint will be acrylic anyways. Bone daddy, tell your bud, its a awsome concept, and the banger makes it even cooler. Il share mine when i build it.
Here are shots from Saturday of the build I started on Friday night. It's a Lindberg 1/32 scale hot rod - I ended up dropping the nose a little, and the final version (finished it late Saturday night) features a straight-pin shifter and 15/32" snap caps as salt flat discs. Anyway, here's what it looked like about 16 hours into the build: I'll take pics of the finished car tomorrow when the sun is up again. BTW: that COE Model A RPU is BAD***!
Hey Guys, Dont post much as i time is something i dont have a lot of lately! Here are a couple ive done recently. I Finished this 34 A month or so ago, kind of an early 60's Show rod with radirs and chrome reversed rims, 6 carbed hemi, white interior and a pretty nasty stance. I was going to run a 32 grille but it just looked evil with a 34. A 40 coupe with an early 50s feel, slightly chopped top, a bit of smoothing just to make it all flow. It Is in grey primer at the moment but will get a coat of gloss black eventually. a 65 chevy pickup, basicly kit stock apart from kicking up the rear frame. I moulded the bed over a bit and fitted the tuck'n'roll bed cover. This is my latest in the build. Improved A roadster on 32 rails, Il run the Y-block but with triple carbs instead of the blower. Colour is dark green
Lots of great stuff on this thread as usual. Love the big T.....looks like you were inspired by Norm Grabowski's "Kookie car"
here is what i'm working on right now i'm calling it the five hour falcon because i plan on having it shelf ready in 5 hours or less. it's a nice change since the last 2 i built drug on for 9 monh each keith
This is 1/32 scale. Not traditional but I'm having fun with it. Motor is from a Funny car kit, ch***is is br*** and still has a long way to go. Now I have posted this one before but have run out of steam, I was going to put a flattie with Ardun heads but was thinking a little more sedate. Something like a dressed flattie?? Need some ideas on this one guys. Cheers, Doc.
Save the Ardun heads for a more open car. Did any of you see the reissue Hawk Weird-Ohs at Walmart? They have a bunch at mine, they don't seem to be selling so they probably won't get more.
Omega, Could you post the steps you did to create the rusty body. What type of paint? etc... One of my projects is a 1/16 scale 57 chevy Conv that im building to look old and worn out yours looks awesome Thanks Glen
I just had the chance to take pics of this little roadster today, though I finished it Saturday night: I'm not Omega, but I can fill you in on my little methods: I lay down a base coat of oxidized metal (Tamiya Light Gunmetal misted over Floquil Roof Brown), then use a series of iron oxide "rust" and black washes to mottle the finish. I mask off the "peeled" areas using either rubber cement or moistened salt, then shoot the top "paint" color on. When that's dry, I rub off the masked areas, letting those nasty, rusty spots show through. More washes help to bring out the crust.
Wal-Mart has them. New release. They have really nasty (as in ugly) gold spokes with rubber band tires on them but it gives you a nice body to work with. They also have a convert and 1/64 versions.
anyone know where I can find a 53 caddy 4 door? No luck so far. Want to build a mini mock up of what I'm working on for real.
