I buy and sell on e-pay all the time. 99 % of the time I have gotton exactly what was described. If you don't want the carb just put it back on e-bay. And you may make a few extra bucks.:)

Now that's good advice, I've been wanting to go to Hersey for a very long time.

    Jimmy,
I know that you didn't mean any ill-will but understand, you gambled and lost. Chock this one up for experience. Suck it up and move on. You are not hurt @ 40.00 on a 94.
My ol man always told me never play the other mans game. This guy knew exactly what he had and what he was selling. He walked the fine line and you lost.

I don't get the guys on here ragging on you for trying to get a good deal, like if anyone on here saw an Auburn dash described as just a dash and it was $20 would they tell the guy that he has something much more valuable? I think the item in the picture is what you should have got, maybe he screwed up and yea' you should have asked him why the picture didn't match the description, what's the point of even having a picture then?

I used to probe at the Ebay Stromberg world, when they were just beginning to reach ridiculous prices...found one listed under "Stromburg" by some moron, even though you could actually read the right spelling in the photo...probably nowadays everyone has common spelling mistakes included in their search strings. Another had a really carefully blurred photo in which the side number was JUST unreadable, but you could if you squinted see a diagonal mark that could have been the base of the 7 in 97...seller, who obviously knew only the magic 97, carefully avoided numbers...after much squinting, I rolled the dice and got the carb...my guess was right, and I had another LZ Stromberg!
Hershey is muchmuchmuch better than anything you can imagine on Ebay...but can be searched only on foot. If you need a blower drive for a DeSoto, it is doubtless there, but you can only find it by ancient infantry methods...

I had a similar experience on Egay with EELCO.
They ran a listing that pictured 3 throttle arms, along
with a long text description that used words to dance
around the fact that the auction was for only "one" arm!
Thought I made a good deal for $9 until I received
    only one arm.
I complained to the EELCO company in Organ (ha)
and they said they were not trying to be deceptive.
However they changed the wording after I said I was
going to bring it up on the HAMB.
The manager later emailed me to say that they were
sending 2 more throttle arms since I misunderstood
the add.Probably so I wouldn't tell on the HAMB.
    HE LIED LIKE A RUG!
Of course, the other 2 arms never arrived.

I don't think anyone begrudges someone trying to get a good deal. The issue here is the complaining when the good deal wasn't so good. Could be the seller was a sneek, but I like the quote about not being able to con an honest man.

that sellers got 283 positive feedback ... 78 in the last month. you people who think he did it on purpose are nuts. if he was a rip off artist he would have listed a 94 as a 97. not put in a crappy picture of a 97 in his 94 listing.

If you have a problem with a purchase on ebay email the guy. just don't make shit up or be a dick.

Seems to me the pic had better match the desrciption if not its false advertising and against ebay policy. You could file a claim and use ebays "Item recieved signifigantly different than described" Thats his his side of the street. By the way a little different scenerio but I've done it and I got my cash back. Your side of the street is you knew it didnt match and could have asked but then we all know you would be educating the seller and nobody on here thats talkin big shit to you in this thread is teaching sellers to up there prices on ebay or at swaps! I think its OK money for a holley but if your not happy work it out with seller you might find out he's a stand up guy or a complete asshole. LTR Dave

IMO he owes you what is in the pic or a refund, people are prone to making mistakes with their descriptions but cameras arent. It's the sellers fault if the description was incorrect. BTW I didnt forget about the trim rings................I'll be calling you soon.

scouring ebay for poorly listed parts is a game, you can play it or not, but don't bust jimmy's balls. if the picture isn't what he's selling, that's not any different than if his description isn't what he's selling.

I try to eliminate these problems when I list things on Ebay by always stating "look at the pictures and ASK questions before bidding". There was no mention in the ad of what you see is what you get, so I think as far as Ebay is concerned you got exactly what was described in the text. Like Hidden mentioned...if you don't want the carb I think there are a number of folks on this board that will relieve you of it and you can put about another $100 with it and buy a 97 core.

I once listed what I honestly thought was a Model A generator. The first day a guy emails me and says its a 32 ford 4 cyl generator. No bids so I changed the listing and got $275 for an item Id have been happy to get $100 for. Did I lie, no, I thought it was a Model A generator. Had someone bought it they could have resold it and made money. Who knows what he knew, call him and tell him what he sold was wrong as pictured. You could have told him up front instead of trying to steal it too, so whos the crook here ?

Again, not telling a seller more info isn't being dishonest. It's how auctions have been run for decades, if not centuries.

If you go to a live auction and happen to be the only one who knows what the part up for sale is and you know it's worth $250 but you get it for $12.00 were you dishonest for not stopping the auction and informing the auctioneer what it is they are selling?

    No.

Now if you buy it and it's completely shot and useless, should the auctioneer give you your money back? No.

This is how auctions work. Now that would be completely different than seeing something in someones garage and talking them into selling it to you for next to nothing.

I've bought things at auction that I've not been able to completely checkout. You take your chances either way.

Generally though if you can show an auctioneer where he misrepresented an item, the good ones will give you your money back.

I list my ebay items with a description and the words "item is shown in picture" that eliminates problems. I also say "ask all questions before bidding as all sales are final"

There is no doubt the guy was pulling a fast one with the Stromberg photos. There is no way a guy who calls himself junkman and sells mostly car parts, is going to mix up a 94 and 97. However there is no way you should have been fooled either. You rolled the dice and came up snake eyes. You can't scam a scammer. Sounds like you got a good carb anyway. Now call it an 81 and stick somebody else with it..(kidding)
