I have to run lines on my 1964 Galaxie I just bought and need to know if I need to run regulators (red and blue) for the front and rear. It has a Granada front disc set up and a nine inch drum rearend. It has a dual master cylinder on the firewall in the stock location. I thought I read that if the master cylinder is above all the brake components you can just run lines and be done with it.

    Thanks

There is no need to run residual valves if m/c is mounted on the firewall. However, dependent upon the m/c you chose, you may need to run a proportioning valve. I usually scrounge the prop. valve from a junkyard, large GM type cars work well.

You still wil need to run a 10lb (red) residual valve on the rear line. This stops air from being ****ed into the system when the pedal is released. Here is a good link for brake info.

so it would be a good idea to run a set of Wilwood residual pressure valves front and rear?

  5. yes , do it now while you are doing the lines anyway

If your using the master cylinder off the granada and it had rear drums the check valve should already be in the master cylinder, basically if the car you got your donor m/c from had the m/c on the firewall and had rear drum and front disc dont add a residual pressure valve cause its already in the m/c.the only time you need a residual valve on discs is when the m/c is mounted below the calipers.

The front one is not required if you have the master cylinder on the firewall. It's used to stop fluid from leaking back into the MC. It won't hurt to put one in if you feel better about it. You will probably need the proportioning valve as well to make sure the back doesn't lock up before the front is activated. That goes on the rear line as well.
