I am looking to buy a shifter for my th350 and would like to know others opinions on shifters out there. Im sure both Genie and Lokar are good, any input on either or are there alternatives that are less costly?
I have a Lokar .. like eveything except limited knob selection unless you put that funky adapter on it Next one gets a gennie
I really like my Genie. You can put any knob on it. I think this has been discussed quite a few times. Maybe try searching for this question.
Of course I am going to be very bias and sugjest the Gennie since my son runs the company But if you have a momentary laps of judgment and chose the compi***ion, Gennie Shifter does offer there own versoin of an adapter that will accept one of the many shift knobs they offer. As a consideration to there many dealers Gennie Shifter does not sell retail but there are many Alliance Members that are dealers and will sell you a shifter at a discount if you are a alliance member.
Gennie used them both and as said the knob on the lokar ****s go with Gennie and you will be alot happier.
Damit I do some dumb things.......... Just bought a Genie shifter and never thought of an alliance vendor......... My stupidity cost me in the wallet again............ think.think.think
Dude Genie all the way...Lokar ****s...horrible expeirences with Lokar...nothing but problems...Especially coming out of gear on bumpy roads. So go with Genie! My 2 cents..
haven't had any problems like that with mine. Had one on the T-350 for 22,000 mi and on the 700R for over 30,000 mi. and it's been all over the country including some rough roads.
i have both. both work good, but the lokar knob thing is a pain. gennie has it all. just about any knob will work.and shift levers.
ive got the one with the push****on. it rattles and is really annoying . also no lockout from d to n so if you like to hammer it like me its easy to overshoot and hit neutral
Genie for several good reasons, better quality, any shift know, no stupid push ****on and all this is just my opinion, but appears to be backed up with others. Good Luck
I've had Lokars' in a couple of my rides, never any problems. Nice quality shifter, good hardware, brackets, etc. If I remember right he directions were somewhat vague, although they're not very tough to install. I will agree the limited knob selection or having to use the adapter kit ****s. Never had a Gennie so I can't really compare. B&M and TCI both have new 'Street Rod' shifters out that are similar to the Lokar/Gennies.
Have used Gennie for about 20 some years, never a problem. The only Lokar I've had came on my wife's '37. When it's cool/cold out you have to stand on the ****on for a minute to get it to depress and then its real stiff to shift. About July it gets a little better, then you only have to listen to the ****on rattle. My '32 has over 25,000 miles and I've never touched the Gennie shifter since I installed it. Frank
