We recently got high speed internet through Speednetllc.com. We are out in the country, but they have a tower not far away. I don't know if it's available in your area or not. It works pretty good, no problems, yet.

Mine comes through the phone line. Qwest.

  4. Check your local phone company's setup first & see if they can add high speed. If not......

Hughes offers the Internet through a small satellite dish, basically like the Direct TV/Dish Network dishes. As a matter of fact the dish can be used for that as well. It is a more expensive and different dish, so even if you have satellite already, it will probably need to be converted along with everything else necessary.

Last time I checked, which was a few years ago, it was not particularly cheap- high installation costs plus several hundred a year for the service. It's not a very compe***ive market & therefore no real deals. However, I've been told the costs have gone down. High speed Internet in the country is not a "$9.95/month" deal as a rule.

In my case it would have been worth it (I had an extra line & telephone service just for the 'Net & could have dropped that), if I could have dropped my regular phone service too, & gone to a cell phone only. Unfortunately my house was in a cell "hole", so we had to keep land line service too. :(

This is THE site for internet services. Click 'By location or Area Code' under "Find a Broadband", and you'll soon know if there is a company servicing your locale.
Plus the pricing. Basically all you would ever need to know about getting internet anywhere in the world.

That is the best site I've found to search for high-speed access. Good luck on yoru search. It literally took me 6+ months to find something available at my place and I'm less than a mile away from one of the biggest telecom business areas of the country. If you have any options other than satellite I'd seriously consider them because Hughes is freaking pricey.

I work for an ISP / telephone company, and this is big problem out here in Montana also. A fairly new satellite Internet service called Wild Blue was designed for rural America where telcos can't reach people with DSL or cable modems. Check it out. It's a little more expensive and a little slower than DSL, but it's sure better than using a dial-up modem. I think you can get service for somewhere around $50 per month.

sprint broadband (use google lookup) has antenna towers that provide broadband. Check with them to see if there is a tower near you. Here in OKC they use the tallest building downtown, but even still, the earth curves, and you may need a tall tower to put an antenna on. It's plenty fast though, and runs about $40 a month.

I haven't got it yet, but so far that is the only option until Cox comes another mile east.

Around here, every grain elevator has an antenna on it. If you live near a grain elevator you may just be able to go in and see if they are hosting a tower. You have to live within 7 miles of the elevator though.

The company we have is prairieinet. It is really fast too. Of course I have yet to get the internet at home.

Get on their website and See if www.speednet.com is available in your area. Its a wireless set up and you have to be within about 10 miles of a transmitter. Ive had it for about 2 years with very few problems. I connect at 980 mbps +-. And If you sign up before March 11 you get the first 3 months for 9.95, and if you tell them I reffered you I get a month FREE!

My only option is a dish. I have had Wildblue for a year now, pretty well satisfied with it, better than the 26k dialup I used to have. Around $60/month.

My brother uses Sprint wireless. You don't have the latency of satellite dish (ie, you can play online video games with it), it's more reliable than his local telco DSL, and it works anywhere.;)

I checked with the Metalink company and their tower is actually at the farm next to my place. I am going to go with them.
