What seat for Chopped/Channeled 32?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Groucho, Feb 27, 2007.

  1. ****SCROLL DOWN FOR RESULT****I've heard late Dodge Caravan. What year, which seat, or other suggestions. I got this Glide seat today and it's too high (looks like shit in there)

TR-3 TR-4 seats straddlin the trans/driveshaft hump.... tradition!

  4. I'm in the process of modifying a Chevy Suburban 3rd seat to fit my RPU. It's bottom cusion is 48 inches wide, but will be tapered. The back is level with the rear wall of my cab, which I believe is 24" tall. I'll be posting photos and details soon.

  5. I would look for seats out of something like a bug eye or as mentioned before mg etc......I used a back seat out of a honda in one, sawzall and some welding required....

A friend of mine use a seat out of a 55 T-Bird. He narrowed it some, but you can buy new upholstery pretty cheap. I don't know about seat frames. He measured his 55 T-Bird and his chopped, channeled 32 5W and they were the same from the floor to the top.

I'd say an 80's Ford Ranger.......if it weren't channelled......back rest may be a little tall for a channelled car....

I used the far back seat froman early 90's Caravan in my roadster.
I had to pie cut the front corners of the seat bottom because the deuce tapers toward the front.
I cut all the mounting bracketry off then welded 1" x .25" straps across the bottom of the seat then I bolted those straps right to the sub-rails.
The center seat from the Caravan would fit in the car without any modification but the seat back is too narrow to fiit the deuce. This seat fits better than using the narrower middle seat from a caravan because the seat back fits better. The downside is the bottom needs to be modified.

If you need to stay low why don't you look into just building a wooden frame with a good qaulity foam in it. You can custom fit it to your comfort with cutting the foam to give a bit of lift toward the front. Another one if you like buckets is a mid sixties mustang with the stock mounting bracket removed.

The glide was made to fit your 32 right? As I see your picture there is room to drop the back part down 6 inches or so. Won't fold forward anymore but would be a taylor fit of parts you allready have. Steve

  13. I thought about that, but i'm NOT the guy for it. I'll fuck it up somehow and have $600 pile of shit(seat-foam kit-shipping-tax). I'm sending it back this morning. I'd rather ruin a $40 junkyard seat.

  14. 25 dollar dodge caravan seat from junk yard.....early 90's middle two person seat....fits great in a 31 chevy pu channeled 6"

if you need any dimentions, i'll measure it, just let me know

what width and height are you looking for? Are you thinking the drive shaft tunnel will be high enough to require 2 separate lower seats or will you still be able to use one sigle bench?

Groucho, you're making it way to difficult. Some 3/8" birch plywood, foam and a staple gun and your butt will love you.

Dodge full size"work"van Ram Van1500 i believe late 80`s early
90`s.they have bucket seats look alot like MG seat.just unbolts from the seat mounts, and they only came in black vinyl roll and pleated. i bought a pair here damn near perfect for $25.00 for the pair at the salvage yard.Good luck..

  24. Here's what I did: I got me a freebie late 90's Caravan 2 passenger bench seat, carved off all the paraphanalia, pie cut and pulled in the seat cushion frame at the front to fit the tapered model a coupe confines and cut a "C" in the bottom of the seat cushion rear cross bar to clear my tunnel height(my drive train is up inside the car like a channeled car but its a highboy on top of the frame that is z'd in the rear and kicked up in front), added some curved sliders from the same caravan FRONT driver seat, built the brackets to mount them, and viola! A seat that moves about 8 inches front to back...in an arch, due to the curved sliders. (I do have to modify the floor brackets for the angles...piece of cake) I am thinking of making the back rest tiltable, too...wont take much work at this point. Anyway thats what I did...mama and I both like it. :)
