I've never seen so many photos of late '50's Mopar customs. There's a '57 Savoy four door out at dad's farm. I think I could turn it into a two door "hard top" (with a lotta work). What about a convertable?
I have a folder with nearly 600 images in it. That's the custom ones. The stock / restored cars I have about 4K pics in there. That would be tough. The roofs are completely different. But it's still metal, you can do it if you want. Also, if it's a 4dr hardtop, they are fairly rare.
Did you all see this today? They are going to unearth a Belvedeer that was buried new 50 years ago. http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/01/23/buried.car.ap/index.html • Car was buried under lawn at Tulsa County Courthouse in 1957 • Promoters looking for people who helped lower it into its crypt • Speculation: Car is either pile of rust or in pristine condition • Contest awards car, cash to best guesser of Tulsa's population
This is a picture of me and my '58 back in mid-1970's. I had a '57 in 1964 and bought this '68 in the 70's. Sure hope I did this right!
THAT, my friend. is FUNNY!!!! and ZUMO, the buried belvedere has been discussed on here a GAZILLION times before, ok, maybe only a BAZILLION times, do a search, you'll see...
I have a few pics form the Hunnert of this car. It is an awesome peice of work. The interior and dash blow me away every time I see it. BJ
I always thought it would look great to extend the rear quarters on a 1957-58 Chrysler or Desoto and set a continental kit into the space between the bumper and the trunk. With some m***ive custom taillights? That would extend the fins back and up that much more and make for a real long sleek car. May be a real ***** getting out of the driveway without draggin the ***? I have not seen one done that way yet! I also wondered why no one has taken out the adjustment bolts at the rear of the front torsion bars and replaced them with pancake hydraulic rams? or rotate the torsion bars a quarter turn and run screw jacks to adjust ride height? Unlike most lowriders that loose a lot of thier ride by cutting down coil springs the torsion bars would still maintain a nice ride throughout their adjustable travel. This would also allow you to raise the car for city driving and drop it to the pavement at shows or while cruizin. The rear could be adjusted by air shocks or replace the stock springs with a ladder bar setup with lighter duty torsion bars at the rear (think of the ride) 70s era 6 banger front torsion bars would be about right for the rear weight. I have also wondered why the torsion bar set up has not been used on highboys with the torsion bars hidden under the frame rails on IFS cars and get rid of the coil spring look since the bar would just tie into the lower A arm pivot. mount the shocks behind the radiator under the hood acting against an extended arm of the upper or lower A-arm (teeter totter style) and the whole setup is very clean. The brain is starting to smoke so it is time for bed. Thanks for listening to my ramblings!
Well, I'm building a '57 Belvedere, hopefully it's close enough. The purists hate me. I'm running a Gen 3 Chevy engine, and have a ford II front suspension on it. I must have it driving to Tulsa in June.
i found pictures of a buddy of mine 58 plym from high school was a guy named hank blank from newark n.j.he was a older guy he got this fury brand new with the 350 2 4,s stick and chop it when it was 6 months old the picture of it in red the lime gold pictures were taken in 1960 hank built some great cars but p***ed away too soon r.i.p hank
South Orange ave? Did the 1st rear window break? Looks like a fullsize was put in between the 2 pics.
no it didn,t break in the early 60.s hank put a 60, fury back window in he was always changeing the look of the carps yes the pictures were taking on south orange ave
teddyp That is very cool thanks for posting. Did you get the new Kustoms Illustrated? It has the white/gold flake one in it.
i specifically asked for pictures of hte cream and gold car a while back. i saw it in person at the pileup.... there wasnt one bolt or part left un touched. seriously that car blows my mind.
Is that a 4 door hardtop? Bless you! The tangerine paint works well on this car.(It looks wrong on some cars. I'm one of those who was hoping for something different than the Chevy mill. It may disqualify you for a color feature in Mopar Action. You know how they are. Have you posted a detailed build feature over at the Forward Look site?
Here's some pics I took today of my 57. Gotgas had asked for some and I have better ones that I will put on later this week. I purchased it this past winter and plan to drive it to Tulsa this summer. Looks like there will be several 57 Plymouths there. The car has been in Ol Skool Rods, has flame throwers, and tailpipes that exit through the backup light holes in the tail light. It should be a lot of fun to drive, I just received my disc brake kit parts from AAJ this week. The car has brake issues now and I haven't been able to drive it at all!
Chad - that's awesome! I dig that a lot. Don't see a lot of sedans done, almost all the customs you see are hardtops. That's great!
Thanks I dig it too! Its funky but fun! I would rather have a hardtop but this car has enough character I couldn't p*** for the price! I'm planning a 318 poly and 518 ****** swap for later this year. I think I'll fix the brakes and CRUZ the 301 and 2 speed for know!
Where did you get these pics, just wondering cause my father has the exact same pictures in a photo album. just ask anthony white, i thought he was gonna faint when he saw them. he also has pics of the 51? ford with 58 impala 1/4's before the car was finished.
Love this thread. I've always been obsessed with the cars, but have yet to own one. Some day.... Keep the pics coming!
