Same Corvette, 28 years later.

  1. Hello!

I'm new here as of yesterday. I posted a couple of times, but this board moves so fast my posts disappeared like that! :D

Anyway, here's something that you might think is interesting. The first picture here is of me standing next to my dad's '61 Corvette in 1978, and the next picture is my son and me standing with the very same Corvette last year at the Kansas City Goodguy's show. Even the paint is original, so the only thing that has really changed is me.

By the way, I think this is a neat website, and I look forward to looking through here and participating once in awhile. I have an old '63 Chevy truck that isn't going to set the old vehicle world on fire, but it serves my purposes. :)

That and the value of the Corvette.

I know you from the ImpalaSSforum. I had the 94 wagon The_Whale.

  3. Yeah, I remember when you bought your Chevy sedan!

Nice Vette, the '61-62s and '56-57s are my favorites. Any nice options on that car? Welcome to the site, have fun..

Cool... my old man and me have some significant memories in a number of corvettes as well... They all seem to end with one of us rolling it into a ball!

  6. Thanks! Actually, it has very few options--just a base 283/230 with a Powerglide (my mom still won't drive it, 'cause she thinks it's a stick). It was one of 13 identical Omaha, NE, Shriner Patrol parade cars, though, so I guess that makes it sort of different.

I really don't get to do as much with it as I used to, but when I was a kid my dad and I went everywhere in that car and just sort of maintained it and worked on it. It has something like 116,000 miles on it, but everything from the paint and chrome to the spare tire in the trunk is original. He's never been afraid to drive it, though.

  7. It's great that you can share the experience of the car you knew as kid with your kids. If I could do that we'd be cruising around '60 Plymouth Valiant wagon or a '78 LTD. I'd rather have the Valiant.

you ought to go back to that same spot if you can and take the same picture with your son instead of you...

  10. Haha, that's a good idea, but I think I'd have to take the picture on top on someone's house! :D

Welcome to the board Revoh. I can remember my first ride in my cousin's gold '61 with red int. Fuelie like it was yesterday. It was in the winter of '62 or '63.

    Nice car!

My dad has had his Ermine white '61 Vette since 1970. Bought it from the original owner. Its a 283/230 car with a 3 speed manual (even more base than yours!).

Him and I just finished a body off chassis restoration. His paint is original also! Crazy. I am a Vette lover also - and the '61 model is one of the best combinations of the original classic looks (still had the wide whites, exposed headlamps, cove, etc.) with a hint of the Stingray coming through (duck tail rear).

Again beautiful car - and one day I hope to be in your shoes with a son of my own and my dad's Vette.

Here's a couple of pics of his (they are kinda crappy pics, but the only ones handy).
