ok, without a doubt i want discs on the front of my '53 chevy 210.

i've looked at several places, ECI, MP, ect.
they all seem to be about the same kit with the same parts at about the same price.

does anyone that has done a disc conversion with the stock front suspension have a preference or any good/bad experiances?

i may actually just end up trying to get ahold of the rotor bracket that fits my stock spindle and peice together the rest of the parts...either way it can be pricey...

    what do you think?

Contact Fatman Fabrication, my kid did a conversion on his '51 and the Fatman stuff was very good.

  3. Speedway has a kit for $239.
    http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/2011,271_Speedway-Brake-Kits-Mustang-II-To-Early-Chevy-Spindles.html
The ad says,"This kit will not work with stock 1949-54 steering arms. Not to be installed on stock 1949-54 Chevy vehicle front ends. To be used only on street rod tube or I-beam front axles when using 1949-54 Chevy spindles commonly used on Model T and Model A to 1936 Ford front ends." I bet you could make it work, maybe even just buy the brackets and source the calipers and rotors locally to save shipping.

yea, i checked out their kit, its just seemed like it'd be better to just pay more money for something that is made for it rather than HAVE to make it work. hehe.
i may just end up buying the bracket from ECI...its like 160 for the bracket kit...i think its got all the hardware and stuff.
the bad part about that it peicing it together from there can still get expensive...but like you said...at least it would save me some shipping!

or for less money get the proper ECI kit. Just get the rotors, calipers, pads and hoses at O'Reilly. I did it all for under $400 TOTAL.
You need to upgrade to a 1" disc/drum master cylinder (chevelle, camaro non power)
I fabbed a braket to bolt in around the gutted stocker, and ran a long rod through to the new master,
or FillingStation.com has a kit for it, as does master power.

I used the eci basic kit and a 1" corvette master, adjustable prop valve for the rear, and a chevy truck 4x4 rear line to eliminate the screw in T that about got me dead.

Wilwood RPV's are junk. Get the ECI br*** ones.

But hey, what do I know.

I am getting ready to install an ECI kit on my wifes 54 Chevy this weekend. O gpt everything from them because I know the owner, but he does offer the 'basic kit' with caliper mounting brackets, bearing spacers/adapters, etc...
They have excellent quality and use only first rate materials and components, this means no overseas junk!!
The owner is a VERY knowledgable engineer who knows brake functions inside and out, plus he is a long time hot/street rodder.
I also went with their master cyl mounting bracket and residual valve.

  10. So does ECI have the best deal on the disc bracket kit or? Anyone have part numbers for the rotors/calipers/hoses/etc from the parts store? What feels better, the Corvette Dual MC, or an aftermarket power unit like Walton Fabrication has?

  11. I used the MP kit on my '54, and fabricated a master cylinder mount/ pedal bracket to use the 'vette cylinder. I like the MP kit because it's pretty straight forward. There are two things I should mention. The spindles require a little bit of work with emery cloth, to get the bearing adapters to fit properly. The way they tell you to install the adapters (with a br*** drift) is a good way to **** them up. I ended up making a special driver, to do mine. And the thing that irritated me the most was, when I went to bolt the drivers side caliper to the mount, they'd forgotten to tap the holes. For what they charge for the kit, I'd think they could have a little better Q.C. than that.
The bottom line is, the kit works great. Just remember, there's no such thing as a "bolt on".

I have never 'comparatively' priced kits so I am unsure who has the best "deal". However, I do know that ECI supplies other companies with bracket kits for the other companies 'conversion kits'. I could not tell you who the other companies are, nor does it concern me.
The kit I got (EC-702) uses 70-77 Camaro/Firebird, 73-76 Chevelle/Monte Carlo (and other A body) calipers and rotors. The kit uses stock steering arms, etc... The 'basic kit' is $160.00 (brackets, mounting hardware, bearing adapters) and the complete kit is $399.95 (also includes newUSA made rotors, reman calipers, pads, inner and outer bearings and races and inner seal.)
I also went for their master cyl mounting bracket (EC-440) which lists at $120.00.
They can supply hoses and just about everything else you need to do the swap.
All of my stuff is fully finished with all holes tapped and welds on all brackets are beautiful.

awesome! thanks man! that parts list you posted will come in handy!
i'd love to order the entire kit and "be done with it"....but i have some money limitations right now. so i'll hoepfully soom be ordering the "basic kit" and parting out the rest.
keep us all up to date on the install! good luck with it!
    take care

hey man, just curious how far you've come on that disc conversion?
i went ahead and ordered the basic ECI kit with just the brackets and hardware.
i started on the drivers side and the brackets are quite lining up prefectly with the attatching holes in the uprights...did you have any problems with that? its not off by alot, i'll probably just have to do a little grinding...just curious. thanks.

thanks man. but i did get it to line up. after inspecting it thoroughly i realized the bracket plate itself had a non-ground off lip on it (just some trash that didn't get cleaned up. after that it lined up great!
    thanks again!
