This was stamped on the pad on the p***enger side of the front of my 327 sbc: CE7P27033 What does it mean?
Ahwww BS I'll letcha peek at it every once in a while. Or you could give me that sweet roadster you got to put it in.
Squirrel, It could be, but it came out of a 67 3/4 ton truck and the block casting number is correct for a 62-63 327.
Other than a 57 265 engine the CE generally means CRATE ENGINE such as a replacement through over the counter or under warranty when new.
could find anything close to those numbers in any of my books...it could be a stamping from an engine building shop. there was one here by me that used to stamp all of the engines the built that way they could track/indentify them.
Bottom of this page... http://www.nastyz28.com/chevy-engine-code-stampings.php Note: CODE CE was used from 1968 to current year. It represents any CID and is used to indicate a Warranty Engine.
Wow!!, turns out its an ultra rare corvette prototype motor with aluminum heads, intake and rods!!! ....Uh..just kidding...couldn't find it on there.
it's a replacement engine, you won't find the number anywhere, just get used to the fact that you have an unidentifiable oddball engine, and don't worry about it.
Thanks, I feel better already. Well, I was planning on pulling the heads to replace the gaskets anyway. The caked on layer of dirt, grease, and grime that has fossils in it like the tar pits in California, is telling me that the original gaskets are still in there and still **** at preventing oil from exiting the engine.
I believe CE stands for counter exchange, the original motor failed under warranty and yours was the factory replacement. But who cares about numbers, it's a 327 man....rip the dam tires off...
