I just got my new catalog and see that they are reproducing 49-54 Chevy California bumpers for less than I can have mine rechromed. I wonder about the difference in quality of the new vs old.

    Anyone bought one? BobK?

I also saw that a spin off company from chevs of the 40's has repop bumpers. Dont know anything about the quality but here is the link.

I bet if a company had good quality they could sell a lot of those.

They are asking like 350 for these. I was quoted $450 to rechrome mine.

Is this a catalog only thing, because on the site I see they only go up to 52. And, if so, here is the dumbest question of the century.....how close are the 52 bumpers to the size and dimensions of a 53 front and rear bumper?

Hell, even if they're a little off, I've gotten quotes as much as $600 a piece to rechrome my front and rear bumpers...and they're in GREAT shape.

Might have to get off my wallet if they're good quality.

BTW: They seem to have one helluva guarantee which is another reason I plan on using them.

for the price and guarantee, Restoration Chrome sounds like a good deal. Again, time to get off my wallet and actually finish my 53!

  8. I talked to Paul, from Nat. Chev, a few years ago at Iola. They had the 1 piece bumpers at that time, and they looked like a good quality product. Shortly after that, they quit selling them. Sounds like they're back. I have no idea if they're getting these from the same supplier? Might be worth the phone call to find out.

I understand they are only doing the 49-52 right now. I was happy with everything I got from National Chevy when i had my wagon.

I paid $150 for my core front bumper on e-pay , I found the rear at a junk yard and got it for $50. then I paid $300 ea to re-chrome them and 4 mon. later the chrome is coming off.

sounds like a deal if the chrome lasts more then 4 mon.

Sorry guys, didn't mean to mislead you. I guess it is the 49-52 only.

When I talked to Restoration Chrome they told me the core was on a honor system. He sends you the new ones, and you send in your old ones. This will obviously work until some ***hole decides to take advantage of him, but for now I'm gonna try them out. Like I mentioned earlier, haven't heard anyone complain about them...

  14. Interesting that NCA and Chevsofthe40s only have '49-52 bumpers...probably get 'em from the same place. I was going to have my rear chromed this summer, but this post has me thinking otherwise. I'll try one of these soon, just not sure I'm ready to part with my core since it's perfectly straight. If someone needs a core for their front, PM me...you can have it for shipping.

I am having mine chromed because we are welding the bumper bolt holes up.

i personally dont buy big chrome stuff from dealers, and stores and stuff. last exprience was with my brother buying a a dennis carpenter shoebox grill and it rusted in months, and the thing wasnt cheap either. i will alway bring my stuff to a good chromer even if its more dough.

I am thinking of using one piece rear bumpers for the front and rear of my 54. I will use a combination of the back half of a 54 front splash pan and the outer part of a rear splash pan to make them fit on the front. I need to mock it up again and see how it looks. My other option is the Briz bumpers. The new Briz bumpers are cheaper than new chrome ones or having your bumpers chromed.
