I don't see a problem with the fuel tank/battery mounting positions. As long as both are SOLIDLY mounted. Do any of you guys ever get out to the dragstrip???....jeez..... Pretty cool ride for a 16 Yr Old!
That will get him laid oh wait that is probably not what Dad wants to hear Seriously, nice car and great to have the project that you worked on together. I agree the wheels gotta go. I can live with the other blingy stuff, but the wheels
I like it. I also like the fact that you let him do it his way. Even though we may not care for the wheels it is good you let him decide right or wrong what he wanted it to look like. He may one day decide that a different wheel would look better, but he will always remember the support you gave him to build it his way. Way to go to both of you.
I say kudos to both father and son. To Dad for giving direction, to Son for doing it the way it made sense to him. At least he didn't do a honda. I wish my dad would have had the resources and room to do the same with me, but we get to play with cars now. He comes over and watches me in the shop, rides along when I go look at tin, and helps me like yesterday when we made a road trip for 16 inch steelies, then went to set the Black Bomber up at the Portland Roadster show. These are times I will cherish for the rest of my days. We don't all understand what motivates the kids, but we need to appreciate the talent and ideas they have. I see lots of talent in the 'tuner' cars, and some of those kids go on to open shops, and end up doing rods for customers and get the bug themselves. I think lots of us have had 'other' p***ions in the automotive world, some we may not be proud of, but they took us down the roads we are on today. You can be proud Dad, I think it's an awesome accomplishment! Tim
Hey guys, maybe if we cut him some slack, instead of criticizing his choices,he might join the HAMB.Maybe then we would influence his choices by example, rather than cutting him down.Great car, have fun, hope to see you on the HAMB.
My hat's off to you, not only did you get the next generation involved in a great hobby, you let him do it in his own way. Not many kids today will go against the norm and opt for an old car rather than a new import. His design element may not appeal to us all, but lets face it, as the hobby continues, the participants are going to get younger.... I'm just waiting for MTV's Pimp my Rod
Great lob you are doing with your kid!! My 14 year old son and 8 year old daughter are helping me with my tudor and I wouldn't have it any other way. The ideas I get from them are a little unorthodox but give me a point of view that I didn't see before. I worked on cars and motrcycles with my Dad before he died and the memories of countless hours spent in the garage are some of the best I have. You just can't spend enough hours in the garage reinventing the wheel with family in my opinion!!
The frame is a TCI. with super Bell 4 in drop front axel with disc brakes. A guy in Houston started collecting parts 20 years ago. body, engine, trans, frame, front axel, rear end, etc. He just never built the car. We bought a trailer load of parts and built it from the ground up. Really can't figure how to mount 3 point harness with the seats halfway into the back windows, but we did put lap belts in it yesterday. Also put pin locks in the doors.
yeah way to go dad. I gave my kid hot rod mags to learn to read. lol and took him around with me to the rod runs. now he can talk to the 'old' guys. turned out good, kept him busy, cept for the tickets! ohh and remmber you cant shut off a battery.
