We brought it home today. The guy delivered it for free. Not a bad thing. 50 buick straight 8. dynaflow. Has all the buick goodies . tissue dispencer, visor, spotlight, fog lights. traffic light veiwer. vantiy mirror. Factory jack and buick tire chains. Theres a few extra grill teeth and bumperettes in the truck. a few mices and friends. not bad for a days haul. whatta ya think?
Dang , thats cool , I used to have 52 . Had about 8 ash trays in it . And a cool intenna in the center of car .
What happened to the G***er project? I like the visor puts that purple glow on the dash. One of the guys I work with was telling me about one he saw in the paper on Friday. Is that the one or is it one of your riding around just happen to see it kind of deals.
I wouldn't chop it at all -- I like the lines on those as they are! The big visor gives it a cool look without a chop. Looks like it sits low enough as is because it's so bulky, I wouldn't even bother that! Hmmm... it might sit lower than stock because of tired springs though... definitely measure height of coils as they sit now before ordering new ones! The only thing I'd get rid of is the Dynaflow. This trans worked mainly off the torque converter, not gearing. So it produced a lot of heat and slip -- something not worried about with cheap gas. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynaflow you put it in drive and went -- no gears except for reverse and a low. To take off in low you manually put it in low, but there would be no automatic upshift -- you had to manually shift it to drive. If you decide to keep it, see if later 50s torque converters will work with the older model. The article states that later models had better converters that improved performance some. Have you driven a Dodge Caliber with CVT yet? Once it "shifts" the first time (the computer holds the CVT in a lower speed for better acceleration, then lets it go up to a higher "gear" all of a suden, feels like a shift) engine speed will go up high, then vehicle speed will catch up. I would think the Dynaflow will work in a similar fashion (not holding the lower gear though). 1920s thinking at it's best! Make the engine torquey at low rpms and lug it when taking off on a relatively flat surface, no need to change gears! Only this time they used a torque converter to make torque instead of a long stroke, big bore, low hp/high torque slow turning engine. Talking about backwards tech!!
She sure has a pretty smile. Cool ride, looks like you've got a pretty straight example to start with ... can't wait to see what you do.
yea after the guy says to me that we can just push it on the trailer with the tractor blade from the front. the ol buick tried to swallow him whole! glad I went early to help hom load it.
kool ride,i got a 51 buick myself and love it cause there arent any more where i live, congrats. Jamie of Dead City MC/CC
haha! that picture of the truck looks like me when I drug my wagoon home. it was riding on the bumpstops the whole way.
Oh very cool! Looks like its in better shape than mine... I have a '50 hard top whose progress is coming along albeit slowly. Congrats on a cool sled indeed!
On Saturday after 24 years of slumber the ol straight 8 came to like!. only turned over for about 15 or 20 secounds and the shook for a bit and in a cloud of smoke it came alive. it smoked for only a few minutes then cleared up. let it run for about 30 minutes and checked for leaks. small leak at the water pump. not bad for all that time of sitting. dropped it into gear in away I went.>> neat
awesome sled. just sent a deposit on mine. suppose to go pick mine up near plilly this friday. give me some ideas of where to find new teeth for the front bumper or parts.
