Can I use a Model A front spring on a 32 axle? I can't find specs for the distance on spring perches.
I started ***embling a front end for a street rod 30 years ago and never got any further than that. It has a model A spring on a 32 axle (one inch more drop than an "A") and added juice brakes from a 40 Ford. Back in the day thats how it was done by guys who could not afford to have an "A" axle dropped by a shop.
The 28-31 front Model A springs and the 32-34 front springs are the same dimensionally except for the spring eyes. The Model A springs have the smaller 3/4 "spring eye whereas the 32-34 have the large 7/8" eyes. The 3/4" size was standard on all spring perches 28-48 , front or rear.
I thought I would just add my question to a thread instead of starting a new one. Will a model A front spring plate and u-bolts work on a 32 front cross member? Are the 32 pieces 32 only?..thanks.
That's what i used on my 32 orig front crossmember; it fits fine to me. You also need the part that guides the hand crank, to make the rounded top U bolts, fit to a square top crossmember. My A pieces are old orig Ford A parts. Never had any, so I don't know
