I took a road trip to Kansas yesterday to look at a complete 30 model a sedan tudor. The car has a clean/clear kansas title. Im considering buying/transporting the car back over to Missouri. Here is my question/concerns........ See, I really only want the body and of course the title.I want to build a "traditional" hotrod and all the original drivetrain, frontend, wheels, bumpers, fenders, frame, is of no interest to me. I plan to chop/channel the body over a pete and jakes chassis vs. boxing the original. I asked the seller If he would be interested in selling just the body and title and of course his response was "no" BUT..... I could leave behind the extra parts and he would sell/advertise the remainer of the parts that I did not want on his website for free .I asked him how it would work...like If I owed him a "consignment " on the sold parts and he said"no, I already sold you the car for what I needed and got my share of the money." I know If I take home this complete car It would be a hassle getting rid of all the parts that I have no interest in. I figured that even if the left behind parts rotted there in Kansas it would be no biggie because I got the title and body at a price that is very acceptable. So...Is the body and clear title really all I need or do I have to drag home the original frame,engine,etc..? Let me know what you all think. Thanks, Vince
does the frame on an A have the VIN stamped on it? if so, you dont want to leave it behind. What happens if someone buys it and registers it? With two VIN's in the computer someone's gonna get in trouble..
NO definitely not all you need. You need as many original parts as possible, and NOT a pile of parts. Bought two cars, probably form the same guy in Kansas, got one titled no problem. The other they would NOT title because it had been disassembled (for shipping). It mattered not that they were all original parts, since it was no longer acomplete car it would have to be retitled as a 2006 home built. Buy the whole thing, you'd at least make a couple bucks back selling all the parts. and as far as building a traditional car, you'll want all those parts anyway. "traditional" rods were not built by grabbing a body and scrapping the rest........ Now, to each his own, but what you'll end up with won't be a traditional rod if it only has the body left IMHO The motor should have the VIN on it anyway, the other spot is on the frame. A body does not make a car............
Yeah, see that is the kind of stuff I wanted to know about. Did not know about all the engine, body, frame # stuff. The seller to this model A deals with these cars for a living restoring them and such. He/we discussed making the original #'s disappearing from the engine and original frame.
just whatever you do, get as many parts as you can, and leave it complete if it already is. Also depends who you run into at DMV that day, if you get a hard time, try coming back later (though I was red flagged on the car that was in a pile that I tried to register)
I definately see what you are saying. These are the kinds of things that i wanted to know. I had no clue about the vin#'s on the frame,engine,body,etc... So let's say I bring the complete car home with title (all assembled). The first thing I should do then is go down to the DMV and get the car titled in my name and get the antique plates. Then If all goes well at the dmv with title transfer,plates,etc... I can then go home and start choppin'? So I should hang onto the original frame and engine after the build is under way correct?
