    I'm a gearhead.

I love hot rods. But I'm enamored with high tech performance. I own a Hudson with a DeSoto in it. But on the other hand have helped dad put together a Paul Newman frame for a '55 with C4 suspension and a LS1.

  4. Hey Groucho,
Are you gonna be done with your Philosophy (or is it Behavioral Sciences?) doctoral thesis this quarter? :D

    Thanks,

I had been thinkin about this topic myself lately as we have a 69 vette in our shop for some freshening up. As i sat in it, looking around, i found myself thinking, 'hey, i bet this would be a hell of a lot of fun to drive.' I think as long as your not ordering the Corvette bathrobe and matching terry clothe towels out of the Corvette accessories catalog your ok.

I'm into anything mechanical, if its old, so much the better..Cars, boats, planes, trains, etc. I've seen people slam vette owners, some rightly so , but many times it just boils down to pure ole Envy or jealousy. I've never owned a vette, but my dad had a 56, and I plan on getting a mid year or a 56-57 one of these days. Met a guy Saturday, you would think him to be the backyard mechanic type, just getting by, and then he shows me Five 70-74 corvettes, coupes and convertibles, including a 70 Lt1 car with 10K original miles, a blown 68 convertible, as well as a 37 slantback,38 tudor, 40 deluxe with a blower, a 65 prostreet mustang, and a blown big block corvette drag car, and a handful of 70s Z28 project cars

Anyway, I don't judge anyone by what they are driving at that moment, been fooled too many times, when I got to know them and found out what was at home in their garages. I've got a friend with a 40 ford convert thats working on an 81 Ferrari 308 GTS, another car I always liked. He's built dozens of hot rods but if he's seen driving the Ferrari you can bet he'll be labeled a snob or a prick.

I think its kinda funny, to pull in on a rod run driving my or my wifes daily driver, to look around, especially out of town on vacation. Some will not talk to you because "your not an old car guy"...whatever...

I wouldn't put too much time into worrying about this problem. You're a motorhead. That's what it's called when you're soooo into mechanics that you like a ton of different shit.

    Here's an example:

    -34' Ford Pickups
    -Classic Mini Coopers
    -Datsun 240/260/280 Z's
    -1986-1992 Volkswagen GTI's
    -Sandrails
    -Cafe Racers
    -Modern Italian Sport/Racebikes
    -Supermotard bikes
    -High powered GoKarts
    -Vintage Bugs

There's a short list of things that will get my mind wigglin and eyes bulged when someone brings them up cause it's the kind of stuff I think about.

Anyone who would label someone just because of what they drive is small minded and stupid anyhow.

I'm a Pre WWII "Car Guy" been thay way since 1961, when I went to my first car show with a 1942 cut off date.Brass cars, Vintage Race Cars, Hot Rods I can mix in with any of those groups. Like it or not ther IS a differance between Pre & Post War II car guys, with a few exceptions. PLEASE, don't get me started on the 1965 to Todays showroom floor types.

I'm more of a boob guy myself, but I like hot rods too. :D

  14. I like 'em all - like my profile says I like customs (Lee Pratt's '41 Buick was kind of the first), hotrods (the Randy Bianchi ass-kickin' T was an early inspiration as well), VW's (my first car!), mini trucks (have a slammed 95 S10 SS with 18's and 20's, Flowmaster exhaust), musclecars (BIG GTO fan - still want a nice '68), even late model stuff like Range Rovers. Will own a Lambo Espada one day (V12 4 seater) and am currently building a '33 Ford custom bodied 2 dr phaeton, gathering parts for an Atomic Punk-ish bubble top and planning a really cool (at least I think so) coachbuild of a custom aluminum boat tail Lincoln-esque hotrod. I started drawing them about the same time I became hooked on wanting to build them. Also into the smooth, contemporary, designer stuff too as I have a background in design and took some classes at Art Center. Still want to build a VW highboy roadster pickup and a clone of the old Pink Panthermobile!

  16. X2!

I never understood the "I'm better than you, because my car is..." mindset.

I used to be a 'mopar guy', but going to the club drags in 1995 cured me of that.

We pulled up in a 3-colors-of-primer Valiant that was misfiring and backfiring (the trick 'race' carb I put on wasn't so trick). The people we convoyed to the strip with wouldn't talk to us; not even make eye contact! Fuckers would literally turn around and walk away when we walked up.

After we put the regular carb back, and won our class, we were a lot more popular.

I guess I just try to not be the "snob guy". As long as they're not able to call me out for the way I treat people, I won't worry about what the fuck they think of my car.

Too funny; coffee on the keyboard now!

I guess I'm just the guy who needs to find a motor for a '54 dodge pickup!

Actually... top or no top, I'm a boob guy. :D When the top is on it often leaves some for the imagination. Sometimes tops on actually hides things you DON'T want to see as well!! :D

Next thing you know, we'll be talking about rather headlights need to be on or not... It must be Monday. You're all sick! ;)

I've had a LOT of cars and M/C's, so I don't really fall into a category.

Best way to describe is to say I'm a duct-tape-my-ass-to-a-motor kind of guy.

First off, your Vette makes my pants tight. As for what type a guy I am? I am a car guy. I like cars period. I prefer old Hot Rods but since I don't own any you would never know it. I can appreciate what is out now but my roots are in old cars. I make my car looks the way I like them. I don't care what people think.
