OK, this should work The coupe is almost done (98%) and needs only a few details done. What ya think guys? Sorry about the different sizes, but I am using a borrowed PC and the picture manager sucks big time.
I fired it up two weeks ago on Alky to if it had any leaks etc. Sge started right up and sounded good with no issues. I will crank her up either this wekend or next on 75% to see how she cackles. Note the HAMB sticker on the door post It didn't have one of those in 62.
Awesome! I've drempt about AA/Fuel Competition Coupes my whole life. Ryan mentioned this thing was NHRA legal, what is the chassis certified for? I noticed it doesn't have a modern style, 6 point roll cage. What ETs are you expecting to run?
Wow! Outstandig, cant wait to something like this in scandinavia! Vintage racing has really taken on, over here. Check out this links. http://www.gasolinemagazine.se/ http://www.svda.se http://public.fotki.com/FuzzyDice/cars_2006/power_hot_rod_reuni/page3.html Br Fenderless
It is powered by a 430 Lincoln (MEL) engine. No, it is not "current" NHRA legal, but was back in 1962. The chassis is all mild steel, gas welded just like the old days. The car ran in the high 170's to low 180's in the mid 8 second range. with a 125 inch wheel base she was a real blast to keep between the lines, My plan is to debut her at the HAMD drags.
Cool looking rail. I'm new to this site so i'm still learning the lay of the land. What I'm curious about is where the line is drawn for "period correct" train of thought for hot rods. I understand it in street cars, i think. But, in race cars, i gets a little foggy. The NHRA has those rules because it keeps people alive at the strip. The way they learned them is from people dieing. You wouldn't go to bonniville with out of date safety, which is what a modern cage is, safety, so why complain about it in NHRA. Also, you don't go to a machine shop and say "Make sure you hone my block with out a torque plate. They didn't use those back in the day." I would think the feeling of nostalgic racing is what folks are after, a guy, some friends, parts they didn't pay an arm and a leg for and going fast for the hell of it. At least those are my thoughts. What about yall?
That is WICKED! I hope I can get to the HAMB drags this year to see it in action. You sure must have a huge set of brass ones to drive it. I've driven some crazy fast cars but I be that's a handfull. It's got to be a wild ride.
It depends upon what you are trying to do. If you want to "race" a period car, you will have to sacrifice a lot of the period stuff to meet todays safety specs. Such as chrome moly instead of mild steel. MIG welding instead of gas welding. Double roll bars and etc , etc, etc. Only an idiot would do otheriwise. Besides NHRA nor IHRA would let you do it. If you want to re-store or re-create an exact period car, you can't expect to actually race it. My car is a re-creation of a period (1959 to 1962) AA Fuel Comp Coupe. I will not race it. I will however, start it, do burn outs and maybe even do 1/8th mile runs, but that's it. I will also show it and then put it into the Garlits museum of drag racing.
Beep it looks really great and your reply is right on. If you had to make it NHRA legal it could not be period correct. The only way that the history is going to live is with the way they were. Lookin good-Jim
BRAVO BEEP Absolutly Beautiful!!!! Thanks for sharing the build on this its been great. Im counting on many videos from the HAMB Drags. Again KUDOS to You!!!!! FEDER ps MTM008 Shut the Fuck up and do an intro.
thats what im talkn about !!!! bad to the bone...... love those old rails . you have done amazing job . love the motor, body, everything....that gets the ticker pumpin. cant wait to see in person up close. thanks sooo much for bringing it back to life.
Beep,You da man. My passed freind Mike Southall was a player with Parks Chassis Bunch when they were running the "Funster" the last Comp Coupe to run and more importantly qualify in Top Alchohol Dragster class before NHRA said No Mas to the front motored cars. Are you gonna test anywhere before the MoKan deal, say at Redline or Denton,or when you say debut do you Really mean DEBUT? MTM0078 ,I'm thinkin' ""something clever"" would be for you to post an intro before you go posting your ""thoughts"" here.
It seems like there was at least one comp coupe at the Garlits museum last week when I stopped in there. I'll have to look over my pics to see if I got one of it. Tom
