I finished up the new seat covers, all home made with some foam and upholstery vinyl from the craft store.
we drug home these four jewels (actually i drug em to breeder's place-his wife loves old cars in the yard ). there was about 350 miles of driving involved so it ate up the whole day.
kropduster, it looks like there must've been a sale on 52 Chvys this weekend. (See my earlier post in this thread, not sure why the pic isn't showing up without clicking on it, but...) I could use a hood and passenger front fender if any straight ones might be available????
spent the weekend moving money around, paying off debts and seeing what i have left to finish my 31... also watched JJJ speed parts bein made....
I cleaned up my backyard, found a friend who wants to take my other Plymouth Business Coupe off my hands, and cruised around and took some pictures with my buddies. Sorry about the non-uber traditional Dodge Dart pictures, my buddy is trying to sell it and needed some clear pictures.
Cleaned up the carbs on my buddies chopper went to the local Rod & Kustom show, it was fun and I got to see the Green Grenade in person. Watched a couple buddies have a friendly fist fight. Back-hand to the eyebrow for the win, hahah. Cleaned up the front axle of the 56 Effie yesterday, and the weather was beautiful. Not a bad little weekend in my neck-o-the woods.
Cool! I need to do the same one of these days. What did you spend on materials? I've been looking at upholstery kits and they're $$$. I loves me a fleetline...what are your plans for it? Myself, I got my Gambino Kustoms notches all welded up and ready to go into my car (should be done today). Took a little time to get the trunk cut out, but I swear, the most time consuming part is getting everything cleaned up for welding and measuring and marking the axle centerline (going from leaf-springs to 4-link). All of that should pay off in the end. Bryan
In the hopes of hurrying spring, replaced the chain and sprockets, brake pads and did the valve inspection on my Ducati. Not much on the car.
I had my buddy come over and help finish up the installation of my Bop Top... modified a flush mount kit so I can remove the mounting posts whenever the top is off. I think it turned out pretty nice.
I spent about 9 hours both days building a giant wood swingset for my daughter. I lost a hot rod building weekend but she's stoked. A word of advice - either don't buy one of these wood swing sets or pay someone to set it up for you. I'm so sore, I feel like I got hit by a bus.
I did not cover it, but I got my seat back from the upholstery shop and put it in. Saturday we drug in a 59 Desoto with every freaking option in the world. Other than that I wisted gas and tires and went to the Swap meet.
Total, under $150. If you want specifics on the construction, let me know. Basically, its black "stretchy" vinyl from the scrap bin, 3" foam for the back seat, fine mesh chicken wire, lots of 20 ga steel wire, zip ties, $5 a spool non-rot thread, DUCK cloth or denim(for where the seat cover attaches) and a good sewing machine with a leather needle.
Dang...that's about $550 less than just a seat kit would cost me. If I decide to go for it, I'll hit you up on the construction details. Thanks, Bryan
53 Sled... definitely give details!!! If you get enough time/pics/info, please do a tech post! Rusk... I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do with the fleetline. (Cut me some slack! I've only had the car less than 48 hours! ) The car already has a 350/350 (the TH350 is already slated to be replaced by a Super T10. ). It needs a few panels straightened and a little bit of rust repair... so I'll be thinking a lot while I'm working on that. It will proably straddle the line between custom and rod, though.
As for me, drove up Saturday to Sacramento area, bought a craigslist edelbrock carb, then up to Rocklin and bought a freaking pile of Model A parts from Chopperman(he has one sweet little hemi coupe!). Later that day... Found out my wife has less appreciation for truckloads of vintage tin and banjo rear ends than I do...she'll come around though...right?
I saw that thing 10 minutes ago and I already have plans for it! Haha...just wondering since it seems like when we build a car, there's always those "next time, I'm gonna...." Bryan
step 1: find a girl who can sew, and has a mom who can sew. step 2: propose step 3: help as they do 99% of the work. We took a few more pics, I am going to concentrate on the door panels next tech week. I used the chrome czars post as a rough guide for what we did. An experienced seamstress would probably be the reason the kits are pricey.
Tried to swap a c4 with an AOD in my 50 ford. Cut a big ass hole in the floor. I have the trans bolted to the motor. Relocated the gas pedal, measured cut and hooked up throttle and TV. I have the xmember in place. All that's left is the stuff that's really going to take me a while: - since the xmember's back 2" due to the longer AOD, and the frame is wider there, I have to fab spacers on either side, cut holes in the frame and bolt up - move the e-brake mount on the xmember back two inches - make a new trans tunnel (first time for that, should be fun ) - reassemble it all, set the TV pressure Someone please give me a welder and some real tools.
Yeah, my last car (see my profile pic.) was a 52 sedan, and there was a LOT of the "next time I'll..." or "I wish it woulda done it like ______". This way I have a chance to redeem myself...
Whittled down a F100 steering box to fit my Model A, Started workin on the new sub frame (read, tried out my new chop saw)
I finally got the Hemi and LaSalle trans into the 28!!! Now I need to fix the big hole were the fire wall used to be!!!
Worked on my VW baja project....hahaha! Also went for a long cruise in the country in my lil' PU.....
I stripped out the interior of the wagon, cut out the rust and did my first weld job on a floor pan. I suck as a welder and it required plenty of grinding, but in the end, it looks ok and much better than the rust hole. Both front partial pans, one partial sill and one partial dogleg to go. I'm struggling to get this thing done for Austin.
Moved the mother in law and wiped the coupe down bottom side and top side for autorama.. No time for real car shit this weekend... Dave
