Got word of a private yard that had some Shoebox Fords rottin' away so I took an afternoon drive. Hopefully I'll be picking up some parts, but if not I had a blast checking out what was rusting 90 minutes outside of Austin.

    Enjoy...

This is 6 miles from my house. I would suggest coming over soon because you really don't want to go walking through George's wife's inherited collection when plants are growing and creepy crawlers are not dormant. Most of this stuff is rusted out totally where it makes contact with the ground. About 20 yrs ago the good stuff all sold, used to be 2 Chrysler Airflows in there.

I had a feeling this was near you. If I would had your number, I would have called.

Dang you really do live way out there. I'm meeting George on the 17th, maybe I'll come by and say hey. Do you still have that shoebox parts car?

Oh yeah, your not kidding, rust city but still some decent trim pieces, etc.

  6. I could spend hours in a place like that. Good luck salvaging whatever you can.

The 54 Olds didn't happen to have skirts on it did it?

    Dear Thunder Bolt Deity, :)

Any idea if that 51 hood is solid? I have 2 fair ones, but would love to have a really solid one.

BTW I have the feeling that either you or I will need to take some bail money to the Round Up, but most likely not for you or I.

The hood is shot, really rough. I bought the whole car though for the trim pieces.

Not that I recall and when I asked about parts off it, that was one they were not interested in selling parts off of yet.

My number is 512 455 9571. If I can I will stop by and see George on the 17th. I still have the shoebox. You are welcome to come by. Never know what you will find out here. About a block south of there I drove by 2 '53 Fords for years, saw the owner cutting brush around them one day, stopped, bought them, the 4dr sedan I bought for the good motor, found it had a set of Edelbrock heads wrapped in July 8, 1956 Los Angeles Examiner newspaper and an old unopened box that had a barely readable label that contained a new set of standard bore Merc pistons. Always look in the trunk!!

Mark, you are wise beyond your years!!:D See you at Roundup!

Dang...makes me miss my old '50 Ford. It was at least that rusty! If one of these had a visor on it, I'd be pretty tempted to think it was my old one! :)

That's the yard where the 2 Airflows were on the side of the hill? We drove in there one time years ago. Got out at the house and were surrounded INSTANTLY by a dozen junk yard dogs, not howling, just threatening. The folks there told us nicely that nothing was for sale and to SLOWLY return to the truck and leav. We thanked them and SLOWLY returned to the truck, backed out and got the hell out of there. Watched those Airflows rot for many many years after that every time we passed by.

Not sure if it's the same place, they had aMorris Minor and a Olds 88 convert about 15 years ago. I remember they had some airflows also. The guy was a truck driver and found these things all over the place over the years if I remember the story the lady told me. Everything was being cleared out and sold off back then. Often wonder if there is anything left hiding behind those cedars when I pass through. I've had many a dream about that Morris over the years and still do on occasion.

Give me a call before you get there, I will help you load it.

I was in there for the first time about 3 years ago, I grew up nearby, spent 20 yrs in Houston, moved back 18 yrs ago. They tell me there was a lot of stuff sold out of there. George's wife was from Milano, her father had a garage way back years ago, accumulated this stuff. I don't know what all was there before but a bunch of big trees have grown up since most of this stuff was parked. Every time I have seen George he has said he was going to have it all crushed next spring. Won't sell parts, you gotta buy the whole car. Anybody need a '76 Maverick without a rearend?:D Sell it to you cheap!! That Fleetline in the pics caught my eye last time I was there, looks really good but the lower 6-8" of the entire car is gone. They are all in pretty bad shape. Cool place to walk through.
