Fellas...this here is the first, but definitely not the last, time I'll be asking you all for some help. I'm rebuilding a '54 Chrysler truck 331 and am wondering if it's possible to get a replacement for the fuel pump diaphragm. Maybe there is a part out there that will interchange with the original??? Here's a pic:
Hah! Ok I know this isn't the sexiest thread on the board but I was hoping someone would help me out here. I guess what I'm wondering is do I have to buy an entire new fuel pump or can I buy parts to rebuild it??? Ideally I'm hoping I can buy the diaphragm somewhere but haven't been able to find a place that carries them. Thanks!
A guy I work with tells me that his father used to make those out of old inner tubes. Not sure if that'd work today or not??? I've always just bought pumps that looked right at the swap meets and swapped over whatever I had to. I'd like to know more about these for the 392 - parts interchangeability and all. Keep us posted of whatever you discover!!!!
I've got a call in to Hemiengineparts and will let you know if they were able to help out. McMaster-Carr has sheets of nitrile rubber that are perfect for a home made diaphragm if it comes to that. Thanks for the suggestions so far.
Chuck Taylor at Hemiengineparts.com suggested Egge (www.egge.com) and lo and behold they've got the rebuild kits. Thanks for the tip Fast_46!
