I was screwin around the other day on my computer and thought I would chop my coupe!! Which would you do? I personally like the no chop. No chop: Little chop: Radical chop:
you know. i could go either way. i like the origonal as well as the full chop. i cant see the minor chop, the picture didnt work. it looks bitchin either way.
Whack that puppy...!!! I like the little chop.... Leave the "radical chop" to the rat rodders. It's hard to picture a channeled coupe with no chop. Sorry, but it really is.... but that might just be me... JOE
I like the middle chop best.... but if it were mine I'd leave it stock height. Every 32 you see now has a chop, keeping it stock would be different and that's what it's all about. Being different.
I like it better unchopped. Not sure why so many people feel you need to "improve" the looks of the thing by chopping it. Seems like guys think just because they do something, that makes it better. Stuff like filling the roof, filling the cowl vent, etc. doesn't make sense to me. If you want to go that route, just buy a fiberglass repop and save the original stuff for someone else. Having said that, some cars do look a lot better chopped (like my '34 pickup). I just don't think that's true for a '32 5W.
I was gonna comment that I like it when you posted it to the member's rides thread, so I like it how it is. The low chop looks good in the photochop, but if you chop it what would you do with the paint? Thanks, Kurt
Why are you asking??? You say you personally like it as it is. BUT...if it were mine....it'd get chopped...somewhere between pic #2 & #3. Ditto....unless the car is super low
Hell I dont know what I'm gonna do with the paint. Thats really why I havent done much with it. I go back and forth on colors so I just figure screw it for now. I still have to cut a stupid sunroof out (the previous owner did it not me!!), and do some patch panel work too. I dont think I'm gonna chop it though. Its just different, not like everyone else's chopped 32. Just thought it was fun to mess with! Although that last pic is pretty freakin sweet!!
I personally like the no chop look. It reminds me of some of the cars I used to see in the 50's and 60's Hot Rod magazines, before everyone tried to show how much money they could spend on a car. If you can't decide then don't do it, it is real hard to un-chop. Why spend the time and/or the money if you like it either way?
Add 3" to the top, make it taller!! J/K Actually, I kinda like the stock height, but I do think that stock height looks better with fenders. If you do whack it, go with the mild chop. And keep it yellow!!
funny thing I ponder the same thing about my 34... I like it as is... I like it worn in... I plan on painting it but damn it I love the texture of the body- the worn in looking engine... the aged speed equipment... Its like worn tools handed down from your grampa... they have much more feeling as they are than after you shine them up. A wood handled screw driver thats been polished and smoothed from 50 years of use... I dunno... I have respect for both ends of this coin... but I'm tossed. I like that car just the way it is. But I would probably dig it chopped as well... and painted... For now I'm gonna drive the shit out of my 34 and not worry about chopping/ painting / or much of anything that doesn't have to do with enjoying it 'on the road'... I know, from experience most of my projects are off... I hold my own bar too high over my head that I cant reach it... so driving a worn in car feels good to me. Its like I'm rebelling against myself. I would just drive it...
Another vote for the mild chop, but if you like it as is, keep it as is. Nothin' wrong with a little East coast tall/channel.
check out the book COOL CARS and SQUARE ROLL BARS....hundreds of photos from the east coast/new england hot rod scene in the 50's and 60's...alot of channeled, unchopped, cut off frame horn cars...if you deciede to chop it please contact me and i will buy the pieces to unchop my 5w...Whitey
