right, ive just done a deal to pick up a set of '53 f100 brakes to go on my A, which has a 4" drop axle.

ive searched on the subject, and theres a lot of good info, but it all tells me 'you need these parts', and doesnt say why. i take it theres a reason eveyone uses 42-48 spindles, is it as simple as the f100s dont fit? if so, what makes the f100 spindles not fit my A beam? kingpin size/spacing? or is it to do with the steering arms?
ive not picked them up yet so i cant compare, but im thinking it will save me a few quid if i dont have to find some 42-48 spindles.

    Cheers

The '47-'52 F1 spindles will fit the early axle, but one side has a really screwy steering arm. I don't know if the '53-'56 spindles will even fit the early axles.

I insatalled what I believe to be a mid fifties Ford truck spindles to my 47 Ford axle. I had to ream out the kingpin on the axle. I would have put oversize bushings in the spindles then reamed them to the axle size, but my axle was egg shaped and they cleaned up just fine when I took them oversize.

The bearings under the kingpin fit with the shims that came on the truck axle.
