The earlier post on hanging a rear axle was a big help just looking for a little more info,,, Anybody used the 40 bones with a later axle,,,I'm asking because I have a set and I'm gonna use the original cross spring that is under the 32 truck,,,,,any advice or has anyone done this before?,,,photos?,,HRP I've built several cars over the years,,,and i've used coil springs /coil over shocks/leaf springs and on occasion left the original stuff. With the truck I'm just trying something more traditional,,,and looking for ideas,,Thanks,HRP
While not totally a negative, you should use caution when attempting to use torque tube triangulating arms for radius rods when locating open drive rears. With the exception of the 35/36 style most arms are made from rolled sheet metal. When used as radius rods the thin wall construction, combined with the tendency to rust out from the inside, they are not strong enough to take the torque generated and usually bow. The 35/6 style are much heavier but still must be babied under acceleration. If you are going to even slightly abuse your ride it is suggested to use an alternative radius rod set up.
Most people that do this use a torque arm mounted on the differential. Hot Rod Works sells a prefab unit if you're too lazy to build your own. An alternative is to do a triangulated 4-link with the radius rods on the bottom.
Ok,,I stand corrected,,,the 40 ford radius rods are not up to the task,,,,and I know sooner or later I would be standing on it! So may i'm back to ladder bars or ? HRP

HRP, A thought,40 rear bones measure about 3/32" thick, while the 40 front bones are 5/32" thick.I cut rear ends off 40 rears and slid em into 40 fronts so I can use'm on my open drive 40 banjo.Previously they were used as rear radius rods on a 8" ford rear.Seemed ok??? glider.
