Gene explained how to remove dents in a roof of a car without tearing out the headliner. so crusty decided to put him to the test with a car that just happened to be dented in the roof

But Megan decided to have some fun, we emailed this pic to her boss on his phone. He was on his way back from Florida (I think)

Sat Megan planned a dinner at Hog Heaven with anyone from the group who wanted to attend. It was a great time (sorry no photos there) took a break, :p

After that Megan took us all to the Motorcar Portfolio office. everyone spent about a 1/2 or so looking at all the cars. Steve found one he fell in love with, a 1952 Glasspar

only prob was it took him a while to get in and out of it :D

Well, here comes the best part of the whole weekend (in my opinion) some left but those that stayed sat down in the lobby area and we started looking at the book Gene always has with him with his photos (Rikster would have died)!!!! Gene STOOD there for nearly 5 hrs telling us story after story and the history of all of his cars!!! WOW

Deb--you really didn't take any from my best side, did you? (That's the back of my head, according to my mom!) :D

I had a really great time also. I ended up with about 20 pages of notes when I rewrote them more legibly!

The food was good too--who made that chocolate cake? I was lucky enough to get the last piece!

Thanks for the pics, Deb. My camera died early Saturday but when I saw you strobin' away, I knew I wouldn't need to worry...

Thanks a TON for posting the pics KLL. I have been busy like Petejoe said getting ready to take 175 guys to Detroit on Saturday.

The workshop was a very very good. I have been wanting to go out to Mojave to his shop to go thru it but seemed to always have a conflict on the date. So last fall when he did the one day show in Texas I got hooked up with that guy and he talked to Gene about doing it and he said yes. And after months of planning and borrowing tools, the weekend finally came.

I picked Gene up in Cleveland at the airport around 530 on Friday night. He came off the plane with two small bags. When I asked him if that was all of his luggage he said "oh no". He ended up having 5 bags! 5 really really heavy bags! He had packed tools for the workshop and also stuff to sell at the Autorama hence the reason for all the luggage. After finally finding my truck (and feeling relieved that it wasn't towed after being in a 30 minute spot for over an hour) we headed for Canton. Summit Racing is in Akron, Ohio which was on our way home so we stopped there so he could check it out. Turns out there is a car he is building right now that the owner has been buying lots of parts from there so he wanted to see what it was about. For those of you that haven't been to Summit within the past couple years, it is now a HUGE facility with a HUGE showroom with lots of parts on display. Gene and I looked around for awhile at some parts he is looking at for his new '32 roadster for Bonneville this year. After looking at a few books that had his cars in them and hearing some stories we headed to our warehouse where the workshop would be. He looked everything over and decided to add a few more things to round up for the weekend. Matt (Whiskeyrunner here on the HAMB) is the head mechanic for Motorcar Portfolio so he met us there to make sure everything was a-ok. We then headed down the road to get some grub since Gene had been on the road for over 10 hours at this point. Who ever said he is a milk drinker was right. Milk, milk and more milk. He likes chicken but never puts any type of spread on anything. From what I hear of Californians, he is a typical Californian eater. So I brought him down to the hotel to check in and we ran into KustomLincolnLady and her husband Rob, Hoboy56 (joe) and 49Fastback (Tucker) so we headed where else but the bar! This was the beginning of late night #1. We stayed up and talked until about 130am. I had to drive back to my house (a half hour) and got to bed around 230. Up at 630 to get Gene to the warehouse early to finish setting up. Rounded up everyone at the hotel and headed up there. KLL's and her husband (Rob) knew Gene from before so Rob was a huge help to Gene and Matt helping get things ready. Crusty is another guy who works in the Motorcar Portfolio shop (he is an Olds man). Crusty and Matt were a huge help to me on the shop end of things. Afterall it was there shop we invaded for the weekend. Gene got right to business at nine and would hardly stop for lunch. I finally cut him off at 630 since we had 7pm reservations. There were a few people who had only planned to stay one day but most ended up coming back on Sunday because they had learned so much Saturday. Like KLL said, we had a good BBQ dinner then headed down to my showroom to check out our cars for sale. Somehow Gene's scrapbook got out and then we launched into probably one of the best times of my life. It was one of those times that you could never read in a book or get from a movie. It was Gene himself telling the story of the kustoms, the movie cars and the people that make the business what it is. Most stayed up until 130 but a few stuck it out til 230. Late night #2, home to bed by 330 up at 7.

    Time out...more later....
